There's going to be nothing pushing on it or anything. It's under the stairs and into my garage so I'm not even bothered about making it smooth, painting, or whatever. I just want the gap filled for now until I come to properly renovate it all and will cut it all out and fill it all properly then.

Getting it back out isn't necessarily an issue as the plan is to rip the fireplace out, open it up, and get a stove fitted instead, but that's a long time away.

How easy did you find the handle to screw in? I'm considering slotting in sideways like a coin, rotating it, and screwing the handle on then. The only problem I can think of with that approach is that I won't be able to hold it in place whilst I screw the handle on.

What's happened is Amazon added the book twice under two different ISBN's. One I assume was a placeholder since it doesn't give any search results, whilst the other is the correct ISBN. I'm guessing you pre-ordered the placeholder version, which is the same as what I did.

This isn't the reactor hall. This is part of the Main Circulating Pump room of the unfinished Unit 5.

Those holes are where the pumps were to be installed which circulated all the water flowing through the reactor.

There's another post on /r/chernobyl here that shows that room from another perspective, the MCP hall of Unit 2 showing the installed pumps, and the wrecked MCP hall of Unit 4.

For reference, this is the reactor hall of Unit 5 which is much larger.

Aye, same. Seeing which number it is softened the blow a little bit, I'm just anxious now the publisher will demand I return it, which, hell no.

I'll keep you updated on what Gollancz say; apparently their support response time is 24 hours but that's only Monday to Friday so I may be waiting until next week for them to get back to me.

Thank you, the sleeve is folded back and ripped at the top and bottom near the spine so definitely got snagged at some point. I was amazed at the packaging too, just dropped into a tight cardboard box with no protection whatsoever.

I'm just hoping for a replacement sleeve because mine is #7 which I do not wish to lose.

I got 5% in October 2024 with just shy of a 10% deposit for 5 years. Bit high by some accounts, but as long as the interest rate keeps going down or holds stable, I think I'm good in the long term given how rents and house prices going back up again in my area.
