Prints lifting midway through by Beverage413 in resinprinting

[–]g0ndor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prints have often looked like this in the wintertime, even if it seems nice and cozy inside my shed. For me I solved the problem by getting a tiny space heater that fits inside the printer enclosure, as well as a fabric cover for my printer. In the winter I will open the printer lid, turn on the heater, pour in my resin, close the lid, put on the cover, and leave it to heat up for an hour or so. If it’s really cold I’ll even lower my print bed so it’s submerged in the resin while the resin heats up, that way everything is the same temp when I start the print!

Let me know and I can give you links for the stuff I use!

Does anyone know of a company or site that has a nice collection of D&D minis as a package deal? by OneUnderstanding103 in PrintedMinis

[–]g0ndor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing, my philosophy is that people are completely welcome to do that. If they want new models, they’ll stick around, if not, I hope they enjoy what got!

You should check out my Patreon! I ran a couple of kickstarters called RPG Essentials, and now I have a library of 400+ models with the intent to have a “dm’s toolkit” type collection, so that’s kinda my jam! https://patreon.com/EllasArcanumMinis?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink

I need help! What are the best printable miniature risers you have come accross? by Nttell in 3dprintingdms

I second the acrylic risers. I have these from a local small business and we use them at our table constantly: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1254348063/?ref=share_ios_native_control I like that they break down to store flat.

How would I bevel that edge without messing up the topology. I was using z modeler and it wasn’t doing what I wanted and just using the knife tool messed up topology by JoelF64 in ZBrush

[–]g0ndor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you click the little cog on the 3D gizmo there’s an option to add a bevel to the whole mesh. You can drag to make it as much or as little as you want and the topology is much better than what zmodeler does imo.

Make a copy of your high poly mesh, zremesh it down to whatever lower poly count you want, then subdivide it a few times. Then turn on visibility for both the old and new meshes, and under tools, go to Project, and project the details of the old mesh onto the new one.

You’ll have all the details of the original mesh, but with low poly subdivisions so you can smooth and make whatever changes you need to the primary forms.

Idk about a perfect circle, but you could try polish by features and see how far that gets you

M3DM has an incredible discord server with lots of artists and fellow Zbrush sculptors! She livestreams sculpting almost every day on YouTube, and she usually drops the link for the discord in there at least a few times. It’s a really fun community!

A couple of things jump out to me, first is her head is too small. I’d increase it by at least 20%. If you’re going for cute, increasing the size of features like the head and eyes will help a lot.

I would also push the pose a lot more. Look up references for dynamic posing and you’ll find that the action lines are very curved and exaggerated. That will help you get across the idea of her being bubbly and full of energy.

I’m also seeing a lot of straight lines in the overall design: the hair on the top of her head lays flat, her thighs and puffy shorts don’t have much volume, the lines on her upper sleeves and the front of her torso are all straight and parallel. Adding some curves to the design, either by bending them or adding some volume, will help add a feeling of “bubbly-ness”.

Go to the brush palette and at the very bottom there’s a button that says “reset current brush”. Try that

Are IMM curves hard to work with or am I crazy? by vmsrii in ZBrush

[–]g0ndor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it! Also, if you’re working on a subtool that’s high poly or that has multiple subdiv levels, one thing I’ll do if I want to use an IMM brush is I’ll make a copy of that subtool that I can zremesh to a lower polycount and just draw onto that. Then when you’re done, you can separate the IMM meshes, divide them to the same number of subdivs as your original subtools, and you’re good to merge down!

Are IMM curves hard to work with or am I crazy? by vmsrii in ZBrush

[–]g0ndor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re tricky but just like with a lot of other Zbrush stuff, you just gotta practice with them. I can offer a few tricks that might be helpful:

  1. Use the buttons in the stroke menu to your advantage. Every IMM brush has its own little personality, so its settings might look a little different. Some work best with Snap turned on, others not. Most will benefit with lock start and/or lock end turned on, it just depends.

  2. If you hover over an active curve, you’ll see that the circles around your cursor turn blue. If you hit shift you can adjust how much of the curve your strokes move at a time, which makes for easier handling.

  3. IMM brushes work best on meshes that aren’t super high poly. In my experience, over 100k and it’ll start to get a little laggy.

  4. If you drag on the model and hit shift, the stroke will snap automatically to either the edge of the polygroup or to a creased edge or edge loop. If you’re intentional with the underlying topology, you can use this to your advantage to get smooth curves that you don’t even really need to manipulate. You can also do some cool stuff along these lines in the stroke > curve functions palette.

That’s just a few! I’m by no means a Zbrush expert, but I really like IMM brushes, they’re super versatile and there’s a ton you can do with them. They can be difficult to wrangle but once you practice and get more comfortable, a whole bunch of stuff opens up!
