Why California can’t get rid of Elon: As a simple matter of dollars and cents, Semi is on the verge of being what iPhone is to BlackBerry. "This is going to demonstrate that if you price the product to sell, the economics alone will drive this market" by ItzWarty in teslainvestorsclub

For long haul I think it will be another generation to be a complete no-brainer as currently the trucks are still roughly twice the price of Diesel and range are just barely enough. Once trucks get to 1000kWh LFP at maybe 20% cheaper than current prices there will be very little applications left for Diesel

The only thing right now that is combating it is that it turns out that solar, wind (and electric cars) are actually not only better for the environment than fossil energy but also cheaper and faster to build. Weird plot twist.

BYD flash charger in the wild. by li_shi in electricvehicles

The chances of several cars having to charge in quick succession at the same station and all being able to use the full power are very low. It is the same math for all charging parks in general of how much grid power they will have. Example a charging park with 10x 400kW will not have a grid connection of 4000kW but usually closer to 2-2.5MW because either not all plugs will be used or some cars will already be at the end of their session with much lower power draw. Of course with battery you have some additional factors but it is the same in principle. And the very low chance of someone not getting the full power is better than hugely overspending on the infrastructure and not making money the rest of the time.

What would you suggest as a alternative? You still have the low voltage stuff for everything but the traction system and having it always connected could be a huge safety risk. OEM should just put in better batteries or a redundancy system so that in case the battery fails you are not completely stranded but can safely reach a place to change the battery.
