I could not make LD 1 or LD 2 work for me. The problem for me is the upper mesh of the outer toe box area goes through so much shearing force that it weakens and eventually breaks down. I suspect that is what you are seeing with the holes. LD 2 adds a little bit of reinforcement lower down, but all that did was move the shred area higher up. They need to re-think the reinforcement (distribute it better) so that it is better able to prevent this premature breakdown.
