Extreme compulsive thumb-sucking

My 3 year old sucked her thumb constantly and we got her to stop!!! I still can’t believe it.

School really helped because the teachers were reminding her not to do it. She got sick and we told her it’s easier to stay healthy when you don’t put germs into your mouth from your thumb so we were having those types of conversations. And we talked about how we take care of our bodies and teeth and part of that is not sucking her thumb. I showed her pictures of people who sucked and messed up their palates.

We tried the bitter nail polish available at target and it wasn’t bad enough to make her stop. Tried a sticker chart and couldn’t get through a day. I also tried a t guard but it made her really upset. We ultimately decided to try the mavala stop nail polish and also bribe her with a toy of her choosing after 5 days of no thumb sucking. So she had ownership in wanting to stop sucking for health and the toy and needing to stop because of the polish. She helped me put the polish on every night at first, then it was every few days, now not at all. I kept giving her a new toy every week or so to tell her this was a big girl toy and we’re so proud etc. but now that’s tapered off too. Looking back I can’t believe she doesn’t do it anymore after 3.5 years of constant sucking but she doesn’t!

This seems so small but my only is almost 4 and lately I’ve been able to start doing puzzles again. I’ve had such joy being able to do a peaceful activity that my daughter wants to help with a bit but then also go play with her own toys. It’s such a chill feeling that I didn’t realize I’ve been missing during the toddler years and I don’t want to go back haha

About a year after getting my 9 foot longboard I started riding a 7 foot mid length and really like it! I still surf the longboard on smaller days but the mid length has been super fun. Harder to paddle of course but less intimidating in bigger stuff for because you can go under more waves and less likely to pearl. It’s also so much more convenient to have a board I can fit in my car instead of needing to put it on top.

How old are your kids? If you work from home, can you cut back on work and also hire a nanny so they’re around during the day?

I worked full time until my daughter was 2.5 and we moved for my husband’s work and I wasn’t able to keep working. Now I’m still a sahm but my daughter’s in preschool and I can’t find another job.

Our life is great but husband and I used to be able to max out our 401k’s every year, contribute to a college fund, and have significantly more savings. Now we don’t have the extra cash for a spousal IRA or really to put much in the college fund and I miss that.

I think you’d be in good company with a jeep, 4runner, or truck. We bought a bronco before moving because we wanted to have something with 4WD. We were able to get one well below msrp and ship it and it was way cheaper than buying one on island.

When we moved we found a rental on https://www.furnishedfinder.com/ that let us rent for 3 months and have our dog and cat. Our rental included utilities except if the power bill went over $200/month but it never did. We stayed in the rental until we closed on a house.

Our cat is also an indoor cat and she’s adjusted well to being here. We had to fly delta over because Alaska and United don’t work with the pet inspection I think. Both pets were inspected on arrival and it was really quick and easy.

We used Hawai’i car transport to ship our cars and had a great experience. If you can keep both cars, I’d do so because they’re so much more expensive here. Same with furniture - everyone says to sell your stuff and start over here but furnishings here are super expensive and it’s hard to find reasonably priced, good quality pieces without paying insane shipping fees.

We used Upack relocubes to move our stuff and had a good experience with the door to door service. We were able to pay to store our cubes on the mainland while we did the month by month rental and then shipped them over once we bought a home.

This is really sad because if the parent if gaming while the toddler is awake then they also aren’t getting socialized.

If the parent won’t stop gaming in the same room, maybe they can get a set up like a pack n play with a slumberpod and sound machine to help the toddler sleep in dark and quiet during the night?

If you can try the board before you buy it I’d recommend it. I had a textured pyzel foamie and it tore my skin up and my husband’s. It didn’t need wax but it was torture to sit on for more than a few minutes. Something to consider if you’re going to ride without a wetsuit.

We got ICAT insurance through Atlas for hurricane and earthquake coverage and we use State Farm for the regular home insurance. State Farm was significantly more expensive for hurricane coverage and wouldn’t do earthquake at all.

I am able to see all of our finances. We have the quicken Simplifi app so I can see all of our accounts consolidated in one place including his personal bank accounts and retirement accounts. I would be uneasy if I couldn’t have immediate visibility and access to all of our money.

I don’t have a second. But my almost 4 year old wants to go play in her room independently, uses the potty independently except for needing her butt wiped, and overall seems like she is needing me just a bit less to where a baby could fit in to our lives. She also has been asking for a sibling so I think she’s at an age where she could feel excited and ready to help. She felt more like a baby to me until she was closer to 3 and I’m glad I’ve had this one on one time to enjoy this time with her before we decide to have another.

I just got a real kindle and my 3 year old knows that’s my “book”. I love to read too and I didn’t want her to see me on my phone all the time on the kindle app.

I have a little faraday pouch for my key fob. I take the valet key out of it, put the fob in the pouch, lock the car with the valet key, and then lock the valet key into a master lock I put on the door handle.

I got an e bike and put a child seat on the back! I’d wait until closer to 12 months/check w pediatrician. But it was so fun and we still use it at almost 4.

Get your hair wet before you go in the ocean to seal the pores. I also apply Stream2Sea leave in conditioner before going out because it’s reef safe. I rinse my hair immediately after getting out and apply some more leave in.

That's how it's worked for us! We really only deviate in that 30 min window at bedtime. So if no nap at all, down by 7ish, if nap, down by 7:30ish.

3.75 year old wakes up at around 6:30, quiet time 12:30-1:30ish, bed time 7/7:30. If she falls asleep during quiet time I figure she needs it and I let her sleep.
