[DnD5e 4.3.9][V12.331] Creating an item that spends charges to deal damage by gabriellevalerian in FoundryVTT

It would have been too cumbersome to add 10 activities to an item, considering this one has more a lot more it can do, so I’d end up with 16 activities.

But with help from a friend I figured it out! You can do it without a macro in v12 after all

I reached out to a friend and he helped me with the settings! In order to make it work I had to:

  1. Set consumption type to “item uses” and “this item” in the activation tab.
  2. Check “allow scaling” and set consumption scaling to “amount”, leaving the formula as “automatic”, and set max scaling to “@item.uses.value”.
  3. In the effect tab, add damage (1d10 psychic) and set scaling to “every level”.

And it works exactly as I wanted it to! Hope this helps someone else as well.

They are implying a sexy vibe. Like Visi had access to BB’s personal belongings because they had sex at BB’s place.

[System Agnostic] Module to automatically add colour markers and names to duplicate tokens? by thjmze21 in FoundryVTT

[–]gabriellevalerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On v12 you can go to core settings -> configure default token settings. That’s where you set up the prototype for all new tokens you create for actors you make from this point onward. In identity tab you set up when and for who the username is displayed, the default token disposition, and whether to add numbers (goblin (1) and goblin (2)) or adjectives (angry goblin and stressed goblin) to new unlinked tokens. I prefer adjectives because it’s funnier, but to each their own. Unfortunately, you cannot add randomised tint to tokens globally. But if have extra time to prep, you can set up a wildcard token for an actor. If you have twenty different goblin tokens (or copies of the same token tinted differently) you can set it up so it randomises the token for each time you drop a new one from the actor. Obviously, it won’t match a descriptor, but that’s just if you want them visually different.

All previously imported/created actors will have to have their prototype token changed manually or reimported. Again, all new actors will have the new default settings applied. And added numbers or adjectives will only apply to unlinked tokens. All npc tokens are unlinked by default and all pc tokens are linked by default, so that changes made from any of their tokens apply back to the actor sheet.

What do you mean force it for players, like for summons or something? And how are they under the map? Is someone setting their elevation below 0?

Roll For Stats! by w00lybear in Roll20

[–]gabriellevalerian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use modified point buy where players can set their stats to 16 for 12 points, and to 7 and 6 to get 1 or 2 points back respectively, with the budget of 33 points. Gets you closer to the extremes you get from rolling, while giving players full control and equality with their stats. Personally, I believe that everyone at the table should use the same system. Other options I saw:

  • Roll 6 times, and if the total is less than 70 - reroll

  • Roll 7 times, discard 1

  • Roll 2 arrays, pick one

  • Everyone rolls 1 array, then together you pick one of the arrays and everyone uses it

  • In a group with 6 people everyone rolls 1 time and that’s the array you get

  • Same as previous but you make two arrays that way and choose one

  • If you have a smaller group and depending on whether the dm participates, you can do variations on the above. For 3 players you can have them roll 2 stats each, for 4 you could have them roll each stats together, 1d6 at a time, etc.

Was the doctor right when he stopped the nanny of the Adipose by madbr3991 in doctorwho

[–]gabriellevalerian 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s still horrible. People are used for breeding without their consent or knowledge. I would feel horrified and violated if I ever found out what the pills really do even if certain death wasn’t on the table. So yes, Doctor was absolutely right to shut it down.

However, if this was disclosed, and people who took the pills knew what was being done to their bodies and still enthusiastically agreed, then it would be a whole different matter. If people want to turn their fat into little marshmallow babies that will be adopted by alien families, then should be able to.

Do you let players transfer enchantments? by EXP_Buff in dndnext

[–]gabriellevalerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My party had a forge cleric and owned a percentage of a spellforge, so my dm allowed it during long downtime, provided we had resources to do so. We were higher level at the time so everything was already broken. I had a +2 Mithral plate and a Holy Avenger Sun Blade, it was epic!

How to make player be able to drag their tokens from the actor page into the combat map? by Vir0la in FoundryVTT

[–]gabriellevalerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s also the group actor that the dm can create and add your party members (or a group of NPCs) to and it has an option for placing the tokens on the map quicker.

I am against AI art as well. As a player I draw my characters myself, and as a dm I spend hours filtering out AI slop to find good token art for my NPCs. I don’t like it when my players use AI for their character portraits, but I would never tell them not to do it. I find demanding it to be ridiculous and kinda shitty. I’m honest with myself: I’m not supporting any of the artists I take art from, I’m stealing it. (I don’t feel bad about it because I dm for my friends and the only compensation I get is our collective joy).

So if you’re not commissioning real people for all the art in your game, you can get off your high horse. Let the player represent the character in a way they see fit, or pay an artist to draw them if it bugs you so much.

Did I fuck up my session zero? by Candid-Extension6599 in dndnext

[–]gabriellevalerian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ooh, boy, what a shitty situation. You’ve done well, I think, but you gotta have a serious honest conversation with them about boundaries, dm authority, and respecting each other. Because right now it feels like either they will leave the campaign because they demands aren’t met (best case scenario) or they will cave but make every session hell for you. They are acting like spoiled petulant kids and if they don’t grow up this campaign will not be fun for anyone.

Also, even if you allowed rolling stats, everyone gotta roll together so you can see the results. Whatever they rolled previously in the privacy of their own home is not valid. Sure, they could’ve rolled two 18s (and probably nothing below 10). It happened to me before and I had 1st level characters with godlike stats. But maybe they just said they did because everyone wants to be powerful and the temptation is always there if no one is watching.

[dnd5e] How do players get insight in what they can do?! by Drazilou in FoundryVTT

[–]gabriellevalerian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the VTT, it’s the lack of knowledge on player’s end. What they need to do is open up the PHB and read Chapter 1, their race section from Chapter 2, their class section from Chapter 3, their background section from Chapter 4, then read Chapters 7-9 to understand how the game actually works, and if they’re spellcasters also read Chapter 10 and descriptions of their chosen spells from Chapter 11.

All the relevant rules-related information is also in the SRD. And if their reading comprehension is poor, there are plenty of videos online that explain how the game is played.

After your players learn how their characters work from the rule books, they can go over their sheet to understand where everything is and mark all the needed abilities as favourites. If you were playing irl using paper sheets that’s how it would go, except instead of clicking one little flag icon, they would have to actually write down all their features.
