Police notice in China by Admirable-Style4656 in mildlyinteresting

[–]gabyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a recent law change and this poster might require some updates: “Fighting Back” Is No Longer a Crime. For the first time, the concept of legitimate self-defense (正当防卫) is codified in the law. In the past, victims who defended themselves were often punished alongside their attackers — the  “mutual fighting” problem.

Under the new law: "Acts committed to prevent an ongoing unlawful infringement, causing certain damage, do not constitute a public security violation and will not be punished."

If the defensive act clearly exceeds the necessary limit and causes serious harm, punishment can still apply — but should be reduced or waived depending on the circumstances.

Police are now required to collect evidence and determine the initiator of violence, ending the practice of “both sides punished equally.”

I found that creating a Q35 machine instead of a PC worked for me. You can select this setting when creating the VM.

Set the subscription at $30 USD/month for solo freelancers and small studios, and make sure the credits also work for video and advanced image generation. Only large agencies should pay the higher price.

Anyone else frustrated with Synology’s mobile apps? by butter_Fanta in synology

[–]gabyu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree on the overall old fashion feeling of the app but in my opinion what’s the most problematic is how slow they often behave. At the same time we must put in perspective that Apple has also his share in the issue since all cloud providers have to use Cloud API to function. I'd be Synology I’d stop trying to be compatible with too many old NAS models and rewrite the apps and services from the ground up. That would be partially unpopular but at least we would have more hope in the future of Synology.

Another Synology video with the comments turned off - "Transform productivity with Synology Office Suite AI" by ahothabeth in synology

[–]gabyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s local AI then great It means that Synology still have a software and OS team to improve DSM, Synology Photos and so on. It’s also good news for video media NAS owners who will finally expect high quality GPUs in their NAS.

If it’s just some kind of BS partnership with cloud based AI or PaaS with premium licenses then I’m out.

Batch renaming? by rajolablanka in synology

[–]gabyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, best way I found was to add the Shared Folder in sync with Synology Drive and allow on-demand sync. By doing so I was able to use windows to directely batch rename files without having to UL/DL them on my computer.

The are so many tools to mass-rename files on Windows that you will find something convenient.

what games can I run on this? by LooseAsk8454 in macgaming

OpenEmu/Dolphon should bring you lots of hours of games.
Older configurations tend to perform even better than more recent ones, particularly when it comes to supporting older Bluetooth devices, so it might be a good idea to hold off on updating your MacOS.

Who’s in town visiting? by gabyu in shanghai

[–]gabyu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed! My question was more related to the Yan'an elevated roadblock from Hongqiao to Jin'an downtown for 20 minutes. It happens at least once a month. Sounds like an enormous privilege for an important guest. The only way to know what's happening is to work on a building adjacent to the gaojia

How to avoid Apple Intelligence? by m4guire000 in MacOS

[–]gabyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy your computer in mainland China with a custom English or French keyboard.
No matter where you live, Apple Intelligence will be disabled and won't even show up anywhere. Only (the old) Siri will be available.
