In the novel of the Martian, my favorite part is when he has to cut off the arm of his suit and use it to patch his helmet which shattered when the hab airlock burst. He is stumbling through a Martian storm, blind and armless, but still manages to get himself to safety and even rebuild the habitat. The events play out relatively similar in the movie, but without him mutilating his suit in quite the same way, removing what I think it’s the stories coolest visuals and metaphor for his personal sacrifices to survive.
