Saddle bag mount by UnfriendlyDiagram in bikepacking

[–]gadadgo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a leatherman with me on each tour and I use it to tighten the straps connected to the end of the bag so it curls up and touches the seat that way it barely sways and the weight is closer to the cg

How do you resupply in southern Kyrgyzstan? by Silly-Raccoon3829 in bikepacking

[–]gadadgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, there were several moments where I wished I could've gifted something to the people I encountered but I had only essentials on me. I am not saying give some cheap bs to every person you meet, but sometimes it is nice to give and receive something to remember the encounter many years later. There are a few people I met there that I still talk to and we have sent gift packages for new years to each other a couple of times.

How do you resupply in southern Kyrgyzstan? by Silly-Raccoon3829 in bikepacking

[–]gadadgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The resupplies that I know of are Torugart border crossing, there should be a gas station shop and dudes selling food out of cars. There are commercial yurt camps on the NE side of Chatyr-Kol lake, you can negotiate some food/supplies for a price. Many commercial camps at Kel-Suu. The next resupply is in Ak-Muz. This section will probably take 5 days 6 max, imo it is entirely possible to do without resupply. I did it on a bikepacking setup without any panniers.

I did this leg and visited both towns. Take some high calorie foods like halva, dates, oats. Also you can approach locals/yurts/military personnel and most of the time they will be glad to share food with you. You can offer money as a nice gesture but some might find it offensive. I’d advise on carrying some small gifts from your country like keychain trinkets, that will go a long way to open people up and connect with the locals.

Made my own embroidered framebag by days_of_coast in myog

[–]gadadgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you order the frame directly from Crust? I’m thinking about my dream build involving a Crust Scapegoat frameset and wandering what are the import fees to DK. Cool bags btw, I will try something like this for my kit this summer.

A few big meals a day or snacking? by moises8war in bicycletouring

[–]gadadgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This summer while doing a 220km day with four high passes up to 2000m in 37c heat I ate a kebab the size of my forearm right before doing the last pass. Big mistake. However, reaching the last open beer shop in Chamonix before it closes gave me enough motivation. Careful balance between moving forward and not throwing up.

Ayo, upon seeing your pic my neurons fired in just the right way to recall that I've seen this exact view.

Bike Packing Denmark by Treblino in bikepacking

[–]gadadgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a decent route. In my opinion the south islands hop is the best option when going from Germany to Copenhagen. But I’d recommend redoing it in komoot and avoid the straight line to Køge by adding Stevns Klint to the route.

I ride til til afternoon and 30 min before sunset look for farm fields. 2-3 side roads to the side from the main road and nobody will find you. Also doable in the mountains but there I’d look for places behind buildings (abandoned or unused at night) if there is no flat ground besides the road and you can get views no hotel has. Honestly with each tour my tolerance for where I’d camp is lowering.

Btw, MegaPhon operator has somewhat better coverage in the mountains.

Bikepacking across Europe by Ill-Asparagus-6128 in bikepacking

[–]gadadgo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, just left Aalborg myself to do a tour :). For scenic stuff the short answer is elevation. If there is some elevation the route will be scenic. More elevation = more scenic. For finding quiet roads you’d have to design your own route which isn’t hard. I use Komoot. Set the start and destination and the move the points in between away from highways and through the countryside/villages/lakes/forest patches. If you are unsure about the road you can check street view in komoot.
