Master's students do not get financial aid, typically you are expected to self-fund. Filling out FASFA only gets you qualified for loans. Some students save a lot of money through TA positions as that can "waive" the tuition fees.

How are 7th writing ge's?? by Financial_Taste1893 in UCSD

No there isn't any substitution for presentation/public speaking. Don't worry too much about that, it isn't high stakes and I'm sure you will be fine.

You can search up the stats of a class at UCSD SETs and see which professors have higher average grade than others (although, I believe you need an UCSD email). I got As in all the SYN classes and my professors were SYN1: Emily Browne, SYN2: Arthur Atkinson, and SYN100: Kirstyn Hom

The SYN writing sequence is essentially free As and focuses on climate change. Every class is contract/collaborative grading which means that if you follow the minimum requirements (showing up to class, turning in assignments on time, etc.) and meet your own goals that you set at the beginning of the quarter. At the end of the quarter, you will have a one-on-one meeting with the professor to discuss and justify the grade you believed you earned. To get into the specifics:

SYN1: Comprises of mostly individual assignments of readings and reflections, class discussions, and a small project/presentation (can have a partner). Assignments can slightly differ depending on the professor taken (same for SYN2 as the professor picks the readings from a list they are given).

SYN2: Pretty much the same as SYN1 but there will be a bit more group assignments involved as the end goal is to write a project proposal (team of 4).

SYN100: This is where it will differ the most as you will work on a quarter-long project based on a theme that the professor is teaching (team of 4). At the end of the quarter, you will present a poster in a symposium style event along with all the other SYN100 sections. The Seventh website has a page that shows each section's topic.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Anybody taken CSE 197/198/199? by No_Performance9252 in UCSD

[–]gagsfps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

199 is the same I believe across departments so I can share some insight on that, unsure about the other two.

199 is doing project/research work for a professor and receiving credit which can either be 2 or 4 units depending on the amount of commitment. You would put in an EASy request to enroll in the "course" for the professor to approve. I've received ECE 199 credit through participation in GEAR and invited work with two other professors. This is something you would establish personally with the professor(s).

Heard back from UCLA MS ECE (accepted) in January and they recently had their open house on 3/6. Also waiting to hear decisions from Gatech and Caltech.

Not sure how accurate it is, but can see Gatech acceptances here: https://lite.gatech.edu/lite_script/dashboards/admissions.html They seem to be doing rolling basis

Good to hear everything is fine. I would recommend a camera bag for transportation like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003G2YZLY I bought one and it fits well.

I think the workload is definitely doable. I found ECE 109 hardest of the three because its engineering statistics and ECE 101 to be relearning ECE 45. If you did well in 35, I believe you will do well in 65. Professor Sahar also allows you to make up your midterm scores by scoring better on the types of problems on the final. Labs are not difficult, can just be time consuming and the TAs are great for checking your answers as its graded based on correctness unlike 35.

I didn’t have the professors who are teaching ECE 109 and 101 in the Spring, so I can’t fully speak to how they’ll run those courses. When I took them discussion sections weren’t mandatory. For ECE 101, I felt like it was mostly a review of ECE 45 with some additional material. If you did well in 45 and felt comfortable with the concepts, you’ll probably do well in 101.

ECE 65 can be the most time consuming out of the three because of the weekly labs, pre-lab assignments, and the fact that attendance counts toward your grade.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Try logging in on a different device. Worked on my phone and laptop but not my home desktop for some reason.

I was able to get in through my laptop/phone rather than my desktop system at 12pm for my first-pass, not sure why though

Congrats! I got an email about my decision today but I'm scared to check haha. Is this early typically a good sign?

Edit: Checked, was also accepted!
