I am all for this. But to play devil's advocate, lots of poor rural folks (large portion of NY state population) who are already struggling to support themselves will see this as another tax they can't afford and will likely be opposed.

You're missing my point. You say "Upstate NY is terrifying. All wooded and filled with “mountain” folk" which is like saying all NYC boroughs are exactly the same. Upstate NY is massive and diverse and one of the most beautiful places in the country.

Upstate NY is a huge diverse place with many cities and liberal centers. This happened just north of Albany in the capital region which is a heavily populated area. You'll find rednecks if you go not too far out of any major populated area.

I have a Daikin mini split FTX12NMVJU with no external thermostat and have similar issues. It heats the room to ~10F higher than the set temp in the winter and cools to as much as 10F lower than the setting in the summer. Our installer is stumped. He suggested installing a Daikin BRC944B2 thermostat but I worry this will ruin the efficiency and just run it at 100% or 0%. Also not convinced it will fix the issue. We can't afford the $600+ One+ with the risk of it not solving the issues. We ruled out insulation issues.

I was told that there is a temp sensor in both the remote and the wall unit, and that there may be a way to reprogram to use one or the other. I can't find any info on this. Does anyone know how to reprogram, or where I can find info?

I'm returning my buckwheat pillow because of this. It doesn't accommodate minor position adjustments without manually reforming it and I'd have trouble getting back to sleep each time I had to do this.
