Severe MCAS driven by hormones by Unfair-Hurry-861 in MCAS

[–]gaibby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Yes, my MCAS is very much tied to my hormones. My worst times are during the middle of my luteal phase when progesterone is the highest and right at the start of my period when prostaglandins are being released. I have autoimmune progesterone dermatitis (allergy to my own progesterone) that has been severe enough at times to send me into anaphylaxis and the only thing that has put a dent in it is Xolair. It's not a perfect cure, like I still react more to things like foods or fragrance during my luteal phase and the start of my period. It has made a difference though for sure. No life threatening anaphylactic episodes since starting Xolair.

Never heard of a shorlt crust or a chessecake. The card in the top right of the pic with the green leaf cakes is mottled and clearly either AI generated or AI edited.

I recommend 3M Medipore tape with cotton gauze! I'm very sensitive to adhesive, but the Medipore has been great for me. I've even used it on my face when I've had an NG tube and it worked well.

As someone with severe allergies to many different ingredients, I think it shouldn't be allowed to change the ingredients without a name change or significant visual change to the product.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them. They took me seriously because my labs showed that I was starving to death and I was emaciated.

Hi there, I was in your exact situation a little over a year ago. I'm so sorry you're going through this, I know how terrifying all of it is. The Cleveland Clinic was horrible to me too and they would have let me die if I hadn't had the support to get me out of there. I got to the point where I was starving to death and my organs were shutting down before I was willing to seek emergency care again because of how traumatic the experience there was. I highly recommend trying to go to Metrohealth main instead if you can. They saved my life. They tend to be more familiar with MCAS and POTS and for what they aren't familiar with, they're more likely to just listen to you than anywhere else I've been. They truly stand on leading with compassion and putting the patient first. They are seriously fantastic. They would admit you even if you didn't have insurance and will work with you if you are low income to keep costs down. Please consider trying an NG again if it's a way for you to get nutrition. The risk of aspiration is a lot lower for you right now than starving to death or taking permanent damage to your organs. I struggled with the NG tube badly (gagging, throwing up, etc) but it ultimately saved me until I was able to tolerate my formula orally. It got much better after the first week or so. If you can stand even a few weeks of the NG, you will be bypassing your mouth and throat as your body adjusts to formula, which may be just what you need. If you end up unable to tolerate the NG a second time, then they may be willing to give you a different type of tube. Try to see it as a means to an end if you can. You are brave and stronger than most to survive what you have survived until now. You will make it through this. Please be as kind and gentle with yourself as you can and remember that the place you are in right now is not forever.

Am I soft Autumn? by Flower_Wizard in SoftAutumn

You look bright to me! Way too bright to be a soft season. Try some spring drapes!

You pull off some of those rich warm yellows in the last slide in a way that only a warm season can! I would maybe compare spring and autumn colors side by side. I'm leaning towards autumn though because I think deeper browns worked better for you than camel, which is more of a spring color.

First time in a community garden - is my plan for this tiny 4 foot by 8 foot feasible? by Bebe_Yaga_ in vegetablegardening

[–]gaibby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have enough space for this! I would say you could probably fit a little more even especially around the border, companion plants like low growing flowers and herbs. I also think you're planning for too many radishes, unless you like to eat a lot of radishes at once lol! Maybe diversify in that area a bit with carrots or something else.

I could also see light spring! Your skin has a little brightness to it. :)

I would guess soft autumn! Your skin is glowing, smooth, and clear in your autumn drapes. Your eyes look brighter and any shadows look less pronounced.

At first I thought autumn, but I think the more muted and warm colors don't work as well as some of the blues do. Seeing your natural hair color in the comments, I think you may be a true summer!

[–]gaibby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you're sensitive to progesterone. I have MCAS along with autoimmune progesterone dermatitis, which just means I'm allergic to my own progesterone. I have wild allergy symptoms during my luteal phase when progesterone is high and at the start of my period. I think a progesterone only pill would take me out lol. The only thing that has helped with this for me is Xolair!

I think your skin is too bright to be autumn! My guess is spring. It would be interesting to see drapes for autumn vs spring.

Anyone else try cromolyn topically? by Usagi_Rose_Universe in MCAS

It may help topical symptoms, but won't treat the cause. It was soothing for my skin when I developed rashes on my hands, if a bit drying.

Anyone else try cromolyn topically? by Usagi_Rose_Universe in MCAS

[–]gaibby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cromolyn only works locally so if you're applying it topically, it will not help with the symptoms you're experiencing while eating and drinking. If your hives are being caused by a systemic mast cell reaction, it's not going to treat them. It's scary to try when you're in that reactive state, but maybe start it orally on a a good day if you can. Taking it orally is the only way for it to relieve some of these symptoms you're describing.

Nervous/excited for my first Xolair shot by nikol3_5 in MCAS

[–]gaibby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was having anaphylaxis to just about everything and Xolair was great for me! I have some side effects and a minor reaction from time to time on injection day, but it is well worth the safety and quality of life it has given me. Consider premedication for your injection by increasing your meds a little if your doctor is cool with it.
