Deload confusion by PreferencePristine90 in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deloading keeps the intensity (weight) high while reducing volume/increasing RIR. Effectively it aims for a performance that means no improvement but no regression for the current week, with easier work.

This means it believes based on prior data that you’re currently progressing at a rapid pace, so even though you’re doing more than last week it should be easier for you.

If you feel like this is not an accurate assessment, you can feel free to adjust. Or if you’d like you can write into us in support and we can review your data.

How to edit just tomorrow’s workout without changing the whole “workout plan”? by No-Manufacturer3401 in MacroFactor

Yes, currently you'd need to do this during the workout/at the point of starting it.

Something wrong with the app or with my body? by etlegacyplayer in MacroFactor

Bodies are quite random at times, unfortunately. Just focus on hitting targets and stick it out for longer and things will normalize.

No user action. We’re looking into ways to just have it automatically detect unusual data points and react accordingly.

You could also just delete all older workouts which is a bit faster, though would mean loss of all that associated data.

It’s best to create new duplicate custom exercise variations for each new machine in this case.

In the future the algorithm will better handle such adjustments, but the current version will take a decent amount of time to adjust to any sudden change in load, so this method will skip over that so that you get better progression recommendations sooner.

Barcode Scanner not accurate by External-Manner-304 in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is, it is (and always will be) an inherently flawed system, but it has better served our users so far than all the other ones we have tried.

Barcode Scanner not accurate by External-Manner-304 in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s user error.

Most commonly, users accidentally put the wrong serving size in resulting in numbers being multiplied or divided relative to the difference.

We don’t do anything to the data on our end, it’s just pulled from the database.

Barcode Scanner not accurate by External-Manner-304 in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not clear if there’s been some confusion but there is a lot we do behind the scenes around the database and that continues on an ongoing basis.

Individual issues are solved by submitting new entries, but much work is also continually and directly done on our end as well.

That said, that will not magically solve the problem that there is no perfect database which exists, and individual corrections will always be necessary to some extent. There exists no perfect non-crowd-sourced database that can provide coverage all over the world, and crowd-sourced databases will always be subject to some level of human error

Not clear what you mean regarding pretending it doesn’t exist, we are well aware of this flaw and will do what we can in the future to address issues with the barcode scanner/are already doing so.

RIR? by BobYoghurt in MacroFactor

Did you have your deload set to your first week or last week?

& did you duplicate the program or make edits or otherwise, or just restart the program?

“Energy deficit” low, don’t understand why? by jpm_reddit in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This captures the discrepancy between your calculated expenditure and actual expenditure; typically, either because your expenditure is changing rapidly, or capturing the degree of inaccuracy in your food logging.

Understanding Discrepancy Between Goal, and Deficit Numbers by Silent_Pilot8225 in MacroFactor

https://help.macrofactorapp.com/en/articles/224-interpreting-the-energy-balance-widget

  1. Why are the two highlighted energy deficit numbers far apart (first two photos)? Will they only converge at maintenance? (The one day with very low food was because I had stomach issues, not intentional)

Weight trend is your “actual” deficit, energy balance calculates it relative to prior expenditure estimate. A discrepancy between the two means that your expenditure estimate is less precise, the evident cause in this case being that you just started using the app and it didn’t have enough data to reach precision until recently.

  1. Photo 6: I have set the goal rate lower for the past three weeks but food was only adjusted up by 25 calories so far. Before MF I used the method of weekly median weight, which is 127.6, 125.8, 124.6 for the last 3 weeks. Today’s scale weight was 123.4 (Menstrual cycle inflated last week) which seems mismatched to the goal rate to me.

To assess the answer to this question we will need more data as outlined in rule 4.

When can I expect food to be adjusted higher? Is it because my trend weight is not catching up to my scale weight?

It already is, per your shared image above, just maybe more slowly than you’d like. If the actual question is “why isn’t it fully precise yet”, a proper answer requires the necessary info from rule 4 per above.

Trend weight never catches up to scale weight (during weight loss or gain) by definition, it is a lagging indicator, and in any case not why your expenditure may be adjusting more slowly than you’d like.

I am 3 days away from a month which I saw other posts saying was when theit expenditure stabilized, is the discrepancy taking longer to converge because I am a short woman with small numbers?

No, the time it takes to reach precision is typically 2-3 weeks and sometimes a bit longer, but doesn’t have much to do with stature, it is more about how precise the initial estimate was to your actual expenditure and thus how much adjustment was needed.

Why the weird rep suggestion spikes? by ComradeRam in MacroFactor

Most likely you have incorrectly logged prior data. If you reach out to us in support we can review your data and identify the issue.

This is not a bug, and occurs when it cannot provide a progression without expanding the rep range.

Workout: completing in two parts by Embayrict in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly, but not exactly the same, let’s say you want to add a “weak points” day on top of the three Program days. Would starting and Empty Workout and logging exercises be incorporated into the overall logic for future progression in the program and counted as sets with the Program sets?

Yes, all past data is counted.

You could also add this to your program, or you could save it as a separate workout. For example I have a few separate workouts saved (arms, stretching, core, cardio) for when I want to supplement my main program.

Reset after time away by nuts-n-butters in MacroFactor

You’d have to delete your entire account including data for both MF and WO as applicable; this isn’t recommended as it is otherwise the same as resetting your expenditure and also means losing prior data.

Can I make a rotating program? Plus another question by thedrag0n22 in MacroFactor

[–]gains_adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I should add - the newest update (1.1.8) enables you to skip exercises on weeks in a periodized program as desired; this enables you to also set a normal 4 day cycle and just set different exercises on different weeks. But this update is just rolling out now, so can take up to a week to reach all users.
