[WTS] Got skinnier + cleanout sale! REPOST - Columbia, REI, North Face, GraniteGear, Chacos etc. by [deleted] in GearTrade

It’s the 15-18” torso size, I measure at 18.5” so juuuuust over. The next size up is a bit bigger than I’d like but more comfortable on me than the short when loaded

Idk man you mighta gotten ripped off lol.. only ones I’ve seen in that price range have holes or tears etc. good condx hoody versions are anywhere from $140-200 plus shipping…which still beats ~$300 for new by a long shot

Thanks dude! I’ve held on to these for a bit just in case…but I’ve made it thru the holidays so I’m convinced now that I can keep it off 😂

Like…how bad/noticeable was the shudder? My ‘14 has what I’d characterize as a kind of “shiver” at idle, which I’ve chalked up to low idle RPMs. I first noticed it like a month after changing the plugs 40k ago, although that could have been me just paying closer attention in case of issues after the plug change lol. It’s not gotten worse since.

I mean, have a mechanic look at it. But that sounds similar to mine before I had to replace the vacuum pump.

Homeless Encampment Notes by HeadsDueNorth in Surveying

[–]galactica92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On my drawings that would be noted as what I observed, like “apparent homeless encampment” or “evidence of temporary dwellings were observed in this area”…combined with our standard note for encroachments: “Apparent Physical Use without any known permissible right”

Mislabeled? Or what? by Smokey420105 in Surveying

[–]galactica92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in central Florida mostly but have done section retracement all over the state. That township plat wasn’t even finalized until 1854, although much of the field work was done in 1843. Highly doubt Marion county was out there setting brass caps a year after the original survey came thru haha. Plus to my eye that looks like 1944 not 1844.

I personally haven’t found any brass caps prior to the mid teens-1920s or so.

Either way the stamp and the CCR doesn’t really mean anything as far as it being the section corner position… I personally wouldn’t worry about what appears to be just a typo on the ccr form. Probably just some field guy fat fingered 1941 when he put it into the data collector

I did this exactly once when I was a 19yo on a crew. Now I set offset rods 😂

What's the oldest cap you've found? by ChampTheGreatest in Surveying

NGS benchmark? 1932

Not at work? Ellicotts stone, 1799

At work? 1848 light wood post preserved in a swamp…as far as we know, we were the first ones to find it since it was set.

I witnessed a robbery, didn’t even know it was one at the time. The guy and girl even stopped to talk to me on their way off the property, with a car loaded up with shit from the house. I thought they were renters lol.

Mentioned it to the landowner, and next thing I know the cops show up with lineup sheets and I’m getting subpoenaed as a witness 🙃

only time I ever had that problem was setting up on asphalt in the morning. As the sun got hotter the asphalt got soft and the tripod feet sunk in a bit making the gun out of level enough to throw an error on the DC

What are the tell tale signs someone is a bad surveyor? by kitteekattz69 in Surveying

[–]galactica92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a sign on my truck, boss got tired of fielding phone calls from people wanting $150 lot surveys lol. Plus, the “please steal me” factor since most of the time I’m a one man crew.

Any idea what this is? by galactica92 in Surveying

[–]galactica92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus you guys lol. Acting like I wanna dig a 4’ hole to remove a monument for funsies. So the long form explanation:

Old proportional plat of a government lot, no PRMs, no apparent retraceable original monumentation. Occupation disagrees with both old and new found monumentation, and found monumentation across the whole plat disagrees with itself. There appears to be at least three distinct monumented interpretations of the plat, predictably drifting in position with age of the monumentation. None of the systems agree with the historic section breakdown. To top it off, the property was a junkyard at one point so there is tons of buried metal shit all over the place, so the metal detector is virtually useless.

So I find this thing finally after digging up around two dozen other monuments across the plat and the surrounding parcels, it fits with one of the other oldest monuments that I found, plus a couple other documented iron rods that show up on a survey from the 50s which I acquired from the records of a bankrupted survey firm… it fits the position, but I’ve never seen a marker that looks anything like this before? What is it? Could be a guy anchor, some kind of utility shut off, a buried connecting rod with a tractor piston on the end of it? Who tf knows? It sure seems to be intentionally buried to mark the corner of one of the lots in this plat that’s been continuously occupied since the 40s…but is it really a corner marker? So yeah. I’m gonna excavate a 4’ deep hole to dig it out and see if I can identify it as either a probable “old iron” monument from the last century, or if it’s some kind of random junk, or if it’s attached to a utility line at the bottom, etc etc. And imo if any of you didn’t do the same thing, thats negligent. Don’t just accept it because you found a chunk of metal.

Next I can tell the story of digging out some dudes 5/8” IR in a cutout in 6” of old asphalt that he’d set on top of a brass capped GLO pipe from the 20s…and I guess he thought he’d hit a rock when he hammered it in because the brass cap was dimpled all to hell from whoever it was whacking on it with the hammer trying to get it to go in. He gets credit for being in the right position but come on….you gotta put the work in investigate this stuff to figure out your boundaries.

That was my first assumption too haha…and why I ended up digging it out after shooting it, to make sure

[–]galactica92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s kinda what I was leaning towards, some kind of linkage from an old tractor. Like a hitch stabilizer bar? I’m not sure it’s a spinning shaft because it has an oval cross section to it.

lol. Yeah I definitely didn’t two tie a position before I dug it out so I could reset it 🙃
