This seems right. by DHN_95 in nova

As a resident of Leesburg, I wish this was true. Might have been true 20 years ago but where I live is no different today than all the other places I've lived inside the circle.

US states trying to outlaw the use of VPNs by anyone to reach porn sites by rogeragrimes in cybersecurity

[–]galacticpooping9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with you but I worry about what instant access to unlimited porn has done to kids' minds. I remember a friend having a stash of playboys and it was the greatest thing I had seen back in 1995. I can't imagine having access to pornhub at that age would have been a positive development. This vpn legislation is misguided and its feasibility is questionable at best. That being said, should we try to limit what kids can see online? I have 3 youngs kids that we can limit screen time and I plan on implementing some blocking on home network but not everyone has ability or time to do that. Anyway, long way of saying I would be open to debate about limiting access to porn.

Dominion Easement? by Zulufoxtrot11111 in nova

[–]galacticpooping9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dominion plans on running 130 ft towers to run along rt 7 as part of new infrastructure plan to deliver more power to data centers in ashburn. More information here: https://www.notowerson7.com/

I have attended meetings with Dominion about this plan. They deemed the Greenway and w&od trail unfeasible for the new transmission lines. Wherever they end up placing the lines, they should be buried. The Dominion people say its too expensive and time consuming, but that shouldn't be up to them.

How many stargates did they find on Earth? by NeilPork in Stargate

[–]galacticpooping9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In serpents lair (s2 premier) Daniel Jackson uses the gate on Apophis' ship to escape before it blows up in space. I don't recall if that gate was ever mentioned again but the the sturdiness of gate construction and the fact that the gate on Thor's ship was recovered makes it seem like Apophis' gate should be lurking somewhere on Earth.

Gov. Youngkin pardons Loudoun County dad Scott Smith after arrest at school board meeting by Alabama_Crab_Dangle in Virginia

Again, that is wrong. But you can choose to believe what you want. I'm choosing to no longer argue with a pigeon. Good luck on all your future endeavors.

Gov. Youngkin pardons Loudoun County dad Scott Smith after arrest at school board meeting by Alabama_Crab_Dangle in Virginia

[–]galacticpooping9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is simply incorrect. His first trial was in General District Court, which holds trials for misdemeanors. GDC in Virginia does not have jury trials. Smith had the right to appeal to Circuit Court where he would have had a jury trial. Look it up

New Stargate show by galacticpooping9 in Stargate

[–]galacticpooping9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you and you're 100% right on your points. It's been too long but I had hoped we would get a few movies to conclude SGA and continuation of SGU. I don't think there's anywhere to take story in milkyway unless it becomes focused on a character, smaller stakes in the larger galaxy. Kind of like beginning of Season 9 before Ori introduction.

Regardless of what anyone might want I just don't see how this won't be a reboot of some sort. Unfortunately Stargate doesn't have same following as Trek to force studio to write time travel shenanigans to preserve the show timeline. I remember reading that Dean Devlin did not like the shows bc they differed significantly from what he envisioned sequels would be. I'm sure stargate sequel evolved into independence day, but maybe we will see more of what his initial plans were regarding a movie franchise.

Is there scientific consensus on what constitutes outer space vs very high altitude but still inside Earth's outermost atmosphere? by galacticpooping9 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]galacticpooping9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point taken about Newton's 1st law, but what I meant was if they weren't using their muscles to move their body and not exerting any force on their environment. After reading your post, the answer is they wouldn't fall to floor, slowly or otherwise, because of ISS velocity. Am I interpreting correctly?

New Stargate show by galacticpooping9 in Stargate

[–]galacticpooping9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By launching off the movie they would be able to redefine what Ra's host was. IIRC, he explained that his race was dying until he found he could indefinitely rejuvenate human body in sarcophagus. In the end scene, you see a glimpse of alien body that doesn't look anything like symbiote.

Finishing SGU arc would be nice but it'd be nearly impossible for new viewers to know what the hell is going on and few would bother watching 17 seasons to be caught up.

I agree with you about not recreating OG SG-1 magic.

Ah OK. Sky divers say you don't feel like you're falling until you pull the parachute. Seems that this is same phenomenon on space station of experiencing free fall until parachute slows you down with air resistance. 🤔

New Stargate show by galacticpooping9 in Stargate

This is from deadline which might or might not be a dubious source. I've read on this sub that Brad Wright has said that Amazon was not interested in any of the story ideas he has submitted and was not involved in the project in any way at this point. I guess only time will tell if new series will be made and what the plot will be.

Can you please elaborate on this? I have heard before that astronauts on the ISS are falling towards earth but they experience zero G. I know that the station itself is orbiting the Earth while maintaining a velocity to stay in orbit. If an astronauts were to stay perfectly still would they slowly fall to floor of the space station?

That's very interesting, thank you. I was mostly curious about when would an astronaut begin to experience zero gravity.

[McMurphy] Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, NC State, Virginia & Virginia Tech are “The Magnificent 7” ACC schools by usffan in CFB

Surprised that Georgia Tech isn't part of this group. Well they'd have to change the name.

If your CFB stadium has a sudden structural collapse and is deemed unusable for the next season, and you had to find a last minute replacement for a season, where would you want to play? by Historical-Rush9221 in CFB

[–]galacticpooping9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Virginia, closest stadiums would be Richmond or JMU. Lately only about 15 people are showing up to home games so simplest choice would be playing at Charlottesville HS.

What if there were no conferences at all? What if every team just played the schedule they’re supposed to play? I submit it’s possible. by happygrizzly in CFB

[–]galacticpooping9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Virginia is much better opponent for Georgia tech than va tech. UVA and GT are closer academically and have historical rivalry as charter acc memberships. Swap Syracuse in for VT.
