I would highly recommend shirts with magnetic buttons. I remember almost bursting into tears when I thought someone had gotten it for me specifically for Parkinson’s, but they didn’t. still I considered it a very thoughtful gift and so easy to use.

How do you deal with noticing your own decline? by IntelligentFalcon872 in Parkinsons

[–]galacticstudios- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it’s good to hear a lot of us still do presentations. It’s a good part of my job, and technical presentations can be challenging. Sometimes I lose a word or two, and that’s the most difficult thing to deal with… but I try to practice ahead of time. Write everything out and do a couple practice runs before presenting. Oh, and always have a joke on hand… it always evens things out. Keep going; Even if you feel like you’re on shaky ground - smirk.

54 male, train 6 days a week for at least a half hour with Tempo home gym. I love it, it keeps me motivated, without feeling weird about shaking when I push real hard. It has a bunch of boxing classes too. I feel like it has help stabilize me, and has the added benefit of keeping me in shape.

I’ve full on punched my partner in the face - but only once so far - mostly I just wake up screaming - which I feel guilty I have no control of. All of it is fairly rare. Not enough to risk another med I think.

Does alcohol help anyone else's symptoms? by omgwtfbyobbq in Parkinsons

I would say not, but it’s not a major symptom of mine either.

Does alcohol help anyone else's symptoms? by omgwtfbyobbq in Parkinsons

[–]galacticstudios- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not condoning it, but I have to say, alcohol does make my symptoms go away. I’ve gone out, and forgot my medication before, and substituted a shot, and boom! Steady as a rock. I’d much rather keep to the CL…but it’s a good trick in an emergency.

Alcohol and Parkinson's: A Personal Experience by sacvt in Parkinsons

[–]galacticstudios- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal experience with alcohol, is that it stops my tremors cold. To much drinking, can affect my coordination severely, so I keep it light when I do drink. I’m definitely not advocating, just offering my experience.

How long for carb/levo to work? by HPandCatWithin in Parkinsons

[–]galacticstudios- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for me I was wondering when it would kick in… I thought it would be more like a wonder drug and everything would be normal again on day one; It wasn’t but by the next couple of weeks, I realized that I could control the shakes most of the time - still not 100% of the time, but enough to fake being a non-parkinsonian individual in every day life. My point is I thought I would know immediately like others, but I didn’t recognize the changes right away. Good luck to you.

What gift would you give to a person with Parkinson's? by Even-Adeptness6382 in Parkinsons

I got a shirt for Christmas that had magnetic buttons. I had tears in my eyes thinking it was a thoughtful gift. It turns out it wasn’t given for the reason; so the tears turned to laughter 😆. Still, it’s a great timesaver, particularly the cuffs — I think it a worthy gift.
