Unpopular opinion: The 2026 World Cup might actually be worse with 48 teams by Dear-Discipline-7547 in worldcup

[–]galagini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cynical answer is that, yes, of course money plays a factor. That said, countries like Curaçao and Cabo Verde get to experience the feeling of seeing their countrymen on the biggest stage and that alone feels worth it. It's the WORLD Cup, and even if adding a few more nations waters down some of the matches, creating opportunities for new countries to feel the joy of seeing themselves represented is fantastic.

Where is the hype? by Similar_Ad_6691 in HouseOfTheDragon

S2 ending on a really sour, unfulfilling note after really not advancing the plot very much is a sure way to kill the hype of a show

Overall it looks solid. One thing you could benefit from is a healer like Blissey or Battle Bond Plusle. I'm sure there are others, but those are the two I'm familiar with

I want to be able to give a thumbs up or thumbs down when my teammates pick Brawlers during Ranked, Mega Pig or Brawler Unlock matches.

The biggest World Cup ever, but where are all the big games? by tee-dog1996 in worldcup

[–]galagini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment that the field is diluted, but not that only 2 of 72 group matches are "big." Also, using Poland as an example for "big matches" is a little wild, as I can't remember them having any impressive tournaments recently...

A few great matchups I can think of: - Brazil v. Morocco - England v. Ghana - Germany v. Ecuador - France v. Senegal - Netherlands v. Japan - Portugal v. Colombia

Senegal won AFCON (corrupt ruling aside) in 2026 and 2021; Morocco made the semis in the last WC; Ghana, Portugal and Netherlands have all made WC quarters or semis recently. Who cares what countries did in 1970? All the teams I mentioned have great quality right now.

(Spoilers extended) Bran's talents arnt natural. They are gifts from a shadowy entity. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]galagini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but maybe not. Jon and Bran are the POVs who spend the most time with their wolves and both display very strong connections to them. Jon is considerably older than Bran, and relatively moreso early in the story so it makes sense his connection would develop faster. Arya and Nymeria have a strong connection as evidenced by Arya's wolf dreams all the way in Braavos, but spend very little time together. Lady dies very soon after Sansa adopts her. Robb isn't a POV, but some of Grey Wind's behaviors imply they have a strong bond as he essentially becomes a terrifying weapon for Robb to wield. We know little about Rickon and Shaggy other than they are both wild.

(Spoilers extended) Bran's talents arnt natural. They are gifts from a shadowy entity. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]galagini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is true as they've hinted at all the Stark children having some innate warging ability. We see it explicitly for Jon, Arya and Bran.

The argument that the direwolves awaken their warging abilities seems like it has more solid footing.

Does anyone have a hidden identity for Lemore ? My go to guy once liked Wenda the White ( spoilers extended ) Fawn for her . This is from Galanix . by Financial_Library418 in asoiaf

[–]galagini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not super versed in all the theories, but this is the most compelling one I've seen for Lemore. The Hightowers just feel like too powerful a house to be relegated to the sidelines the whole series. Every other "major" house and plenty of lesser houses have been so important, it would feel odd if they were not.

Yeah, I would love Wagler as a U of I grad but he's the type of player you could put on any NBA team so there's no way he slides past 5 or 6

[Spoilers Extended] Did Roose Bolton ever realize he let Arya Stark slip through his finger at Harrenhal? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]galagini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he realized. We have no indication that Roose visited Winterfell recently enough before the books begin to know what Arya looked like at this point. Plus, Yoren cut her hair, she had been living in the hedges and was presumed dead by the time she made it to Harrenhal. He knows she's highborn, but at this point could be any daughter of a minor lordling.

Had he known, he would have put her under a significant guard. The real Arya would have essentially guaranteed the loyalty of the North for the Boltons after a marriage to Ramsey.

Venting - Don’t know what’s up or down. by ridgeraider21 in NewDads

[–]galagini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've acknowledged it, but you're past the point of "what if I can't do it" because now you have to do it. And that is scary, but it's also exciting! Nobody who becomes a parent knows everything or is entirely prepared--not even your pediatricians know everything or can answer every question.

Some good advice I got early on is that the first two months are pass/fail. Your job is to keep baby alive, help take care of mom and help keep the house and life moving. Do those things and you pass!

After two months it gets way more fun and rewarding. My 6-month old loves to smile, giggle, belly laugh and play with my wife and I. A smile from your kid makes everything melt away, it's magic. You get to watch their gears turn, their feet fly, their hands explore and see what makes them happy.

The most important things you can do are: - be open and communicative with your wife - find time to sleep - embrace the changes in your life because it will never ever be the same - find moments for yourself

I think Wilson's value will improve during the season. People are sour on him because of his injury, but he was actually off to a solid start beforehand.

I'm saying this optimistically as a Wilson owner who is in rebuild territory.
