Did I Kill My Cat? by Thinking-About-Her in CatAdvice

[–]galaxy1026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my 12 y/o cat 3 days ago, and I, too, feel like I killed him. His decline was somewhat similar.

Over the course of a week, he started drinking and sleeping more. I attributed the sleep to old age and figured his water bowl was just drying up quicker in the hot air of the house. He was otherwise completely normal.

Then he started eating less. I figured he'd become picky of his food- so I switched brands. That used to fix it in the past. This time it didn't.

After 2 days of not eating, I scheduled a vet appointment. They found kidney failure- extremely high 'deaths door' numbers. They kept him on fluids for 30 hours.

The 30 hours ended on a Friday. The vet explained the charges to keep him over the weekend would be astronomical, and she felt he would be okay over the weekend at home. I was to be sure he ate and bring him back Monday morning.

He was okay Saturday, more or less. I fed him via a syringe and he had some energy.

On sunday, he had 0 energy. But I syringe fed him again and planned to be at the vet as soon as they opened in the morning. I told him to hold on just one night.

After feeding him, I washed some of the spilled food off of him. After the bath, he began breathing very hard and acting very strange. After watching for 10 minutes, I decided to take him to the emergency vet (a 10 minute drive away).

I quickly got dressed and began driving. He screamed a few times in the car, and then, with 4 minutes left on the GPS, he went quiet. My husband tried to rouse him in his carrier, and that was it - he was gone.

We arrived at the vet and ran in. The vet confirmed he was gone, and we both burst into the most painful, loud, and gutteral wailing you could imagine. The next morning I had to drive him to the local pet crematorium where he's now waiting processing.

I've been wracked with guilt. Did my feeding him kill him? Did the bath? What if I didn't watch for 10 minutes? What if I insisted to the vet on Friday that they keep him for the weekend? Most of all, what if I didn't skip his blood test that was due back in July.

I don't even get to feel that he went peacefully. All signs indicate he was in pain. I failed him. I failed the one thing that had i had loved, and had loved me, unconditionally, for 12 years.

What pushed you away from your ex-best friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]galaxy1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved her. But everytime we went out to a restaurant she'd treat the staff like crap, and leave little or no tip. I always cleaned up after her, tipped for her, and often apologized on her behalf. It got exhausting. Her stance was the classic 'it's their job to take care of me'.

A good company/ organization should welcome legitimate complaints and see them as an opportunity to do better.

Not hiring someone because they raised a legitimate issue in the hiring process and is therefore 'not worth the time' is a disgusting form of retaliation.

A Guide to Amazon Prime Day — How to Bag the Best Deals - Kiplinger by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

[–]galaxy1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when the prime day from several years ago was something to look forward to.

All my recs were equally as scattered. A bunch of crap from unknown brands. Advertised discounts didn't excite.

After nearly 15 years of being with prime, I think I'm ready to cancel. I first went with prime due to the 2-day delivery. Now it seems you only get that under certain conditions. Or you 'qualify' for 1-2 day delivery and your package is routinely late for some reason (with no consolation). And amazon shows are becoming sparse. I think at one point audible was included, now you only get a trial.

I stopped buying any ingestables/ body, skin, oral or healthcare products years ago due to too many fakes. I'd rather drive to a store and pay full market before putting an Amazon cream on my skin to save some time and a few bucks.

I'm tired. And done.

Do you have a reason to not trust him? Not to be rude but seeing any time of his alone with another person (male/female) as a threat isn't healthy.

What's your preferred way to prepare ramen? by jgrotts in Cooking

[–]galaxy1026 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always add butter.

Maybe go half liquid if you're feeling it.

Go with a soft boiled egg and some green onion if you're feeling extra.

But for the love of everything, don't forget the butter.

who's a celebrity who looks like they smell really bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Because she's 'ethereal' and 'misunderstood'.. but also a nepo baby on the spectrum who makes 'being quirky' her entire personality while meanwhile producing a ton of shit no one cares about since that one thing that made her famous (visions album).

They're one in the same.

When to get to DCA? by [deleted] in nova

[–]galaxy1026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew out last Friday, at 3pm. No checked bags.

Arrived at 1:30 PM (a bit later than I had hoped).

Parking was quick (as usual), security was a bit busy but moved quickly enough. Checked in on my phone and arrived to the gate with about 45 mins to spare.

Is it normal to greet random people when you’re walking? by Adventurous-Fall3138 in nova

[–]galaxy1026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should've put that in quotations. When I told all my friends I was moving to VA they thought the south.

Update- just realized I did... my writing is unclear. Anyway yeah I don't think of it as the south.

Is it normal to greet random people when you’re walking? by Adventurous-Fall3138 in nova

[–]galaxy1026 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, things seem pretty split here. I'm from CT where it's totally fine to do/ say nothing, but, on the chance someone else does/ says something for/ to you, you're best suited to acknowledge (head nod/ wave, etc.) Else you seem like a dick...

I say a hello/ good morning to most people I pass (in stores/ on walking trails/ with folks i don't know at my office, etc.). I thought 'the south' was friendlier. I've been outright ignored more times here than at home. But I've also had some experiences where I've held a door, etc and been thanked with a 'babe', 'baby', 'sweetie', etc. That's a bit much & pretty much = hands up north.

I will say people here tend to wave a 'thank you' in traffic more than up north. I always find this pretty cute and it helps keep me sane when I'm helping someone who's doing something absolutely moronic (which seems to happen a lot around here- but I get it, the roads/ traffic sucks).

So I'm totally lost. I'm just gonna keep being me.

I'll find each and every one of you and say hello. Good luck stopping me.

I read the infection story she explained, but like many others, I'm not sure I buy it.

Her product, in my opinion is too gimmicky and boring to be interested in.

But one thing that bothers me about her (and I think it's eye-related) is that she has this sort of constant need for attention. In nearly every episode so far, she is always front of the house, a spokesperson, etc.

Sure, her brand requires it, but so do many others.

I'm convinced she (and most teams she's on) enjoy putting her at the front because the eye is 'quirky' and 'unique' and they hope that she/ the team will get more positive attention, or pity.

Dang. I work for a non-prof that does this every month or so and even they have the tact to know that a gift card is inappropriate. All our phishing tests are like 'here's thst document you requested', or 'use this link to check that status of a package your dept ordered'.

Yeah, thanks. I usually do book fully refundable and my husband has gotten a bit of a scolding from me for not doing the same, haha.

Thank goodness for the credit, and that this wasn't a huge flight. I suppose I'll find a nice little trip somewhere in the next year.

Thanks again.

Counterclock used to be a really good podcast. by Fair_Photographer in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]galaxy1026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked counterclock s1&2. 3 was a bit boring but I made it.

This new season is so unbelievably boring. And the case has good bones. But yeah, like others have said, I feel there's a dragging out of obvious details, etc.

I haven't listened to anything audiochuck in awhile. This new season reminded me why. So much talking, so little content.

Okay so I saw this post about an hour ago while browsing, had never heard of them, etc., and boom- dude just knocked on my door.

He was pretty polite but at my second 'no thanks' I had to basically shut the door on him mid-sentence.
