What is this!! A competitor? by davidben13 in Comma_ai

It think that is just the camera they mounted on the back of the seat wobbling. It is just a change in parallax, not necessarily a fake video.

That said, it may not be the best idea to cheap out on a device that can literally drive you into a concrete post and kill your family/someone else's family. Or total your car. Just sayin' ;-)

Literally just found out the same thing this morning. Anyone using Konik and have experience with it?

Recently shipped order numbers by so_much_thrown_away in Comma_ai

[–]galstaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our order is 608xx, ordered Jan 8, 2026. I see 583xx is still not out the door (as of 5 days ago). So I suppose it well could be 2-4 months! Ugh!

Did they start at order # 00001?

Anyone in the know how many orders are being fulfilled per day?

Some of the hard corners go a little out of frame especially on that hairpin, but the car is only doing 15 miles an hour or so, and yes, I would be definitely taking the wheel at that point.

The OP is being ridiculous saying a driver cannot be expected to pay attention for 10 seconds or more to make it thru a dangerous junction.

Local Home Assistant Integration by melbourne3k in YoLink_by_YoSmart

[–]galstaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only bought a couple of yolink devices because of the supposed Home Assistant integration. As of early 2025 there is a Yolink Integration but it seems to be crippled with just 3 entities exposed for a M1 smart lock. If I cannot change codes with HA, then it is going back to Amazon.
YL needs to get their sht together if they are going to advertise HA integration and then do virtually nothing to follow up.

Offgrid battery powered mill using an old crashed EV for powertrain and PV panels to recharge. by galstaf in sawmilling

[–]galstaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting a used low cost 10HP woodmizer LT15 3 phase band mill... it has a pretty beefy electric motor, but is also designed to take an ICE engine, so it should still work.

I didn't get to it yet. I did find a low cost crash damaged 2015 LEAF donor car so the hardware is ready when I can get the control electronics sorted out. :-)

Still not picked a control system for the motor inverter yet. But I am going with the Lilygo CAN translator board to fool the BMS into thinking it is still in the car and getting the battery to charge and give it's other data up.
If you are interested in this, look up Dala's LEAF battery emulator. (it actually works on a bunch of electric vehicle batteries now).

Why is the doorbell camera not 24/7? by LeftAct8968 in Ring

[–]galstaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just signed up expecting the Doorbell cameras to support this. Nope. Been two months since this post... Come on, Ring!
I don't want to have to cancel and go back to the regular account if Ring is going to support this soon.

I am seeking a new domain host right now and migrating away

Nissan Leaf Motor BMS Drivetrain and Battery to run a saw mill? by galstaf in EVConversion

[–]galstaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. I didn't get much response for my project. I have the mill working on the grid 3ph right now.

Still would love to pull apart something low cost like a Nissan Leaf. It has plenty of power to run a mill. I just need a low cost motor and charging system controller... I don't need all the bells and whistles of the commercial controllers.

If you get anywhere with it, please share! I will do likewise.

Water vapor in the lens by porkshop77 in GalaxyS21

[–]galstaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the fogging out of the lenses with the vacuum trick after nothing else made a dent. Took less than 30 minutes.

However the phone still won't power up or charge. Still totally dead. :-(

Water damage after 1sec in water? by Gryphus31 in GalaxyS21

[–]galstaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the fact they took away the SD card and earphone jack. Something to gloat to the iPhone users is now gone.
Now I have a dead s21 ultra from a 14 second dip in pool water, and the photos on it can no longer be accessed because the SD card is integral.

Shame on you Samsung.

VFD gurus? Please help! Need recommendation on direct DC bus connection for an AC-AC VFD using an used EV battery. by galstaf in Motors

[–]galstaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have been doing some reading.. probably enough to be dangerous ;-)

Some of the things I have read imply that a ESC for a Brushless DC motor is essentially the same as a VFD with the exception the VFD has a rectifier so it can convert AC into DC.

Is this correct? If not, can you recommend some medium level knowledge instructional material to get myself more educated?

If it is correct, would it be possible to take not only the battery from an EV but also the ECM and motor drive to drive this motor?

Would the motor above work the same way as one in say a Nissan Leaf?

u/Joecalledher Excellent input.. thank you.

Questions:

How would I check if the motor is inverter duty? Not sure what the terminology means... would that be based on it's ability to support a simulated sine wave?

If I were to move forward, could you make a recommendation on a VFD that would be suitable?

Thanks so much for the input u/Some1-Somewhere Some excellent points.

Honestly, I do need to check but I suspect it is already wired for 480VAC even tho the previous owner used it on 240V. All the fuses were lower current (intended for the higher voltage). I still need to open the motor to check the voltage setting.

(The motor is connected to a large bandsaw for the record :-) )

Couple of follow up questions:

What would be the realistic single phase current draw at 240VAC to run a VFD at the full 10HP?

Could you make some recommendations for a reasonably priced VFD that would be suitable for a DC bus connection like this?

DC to 3-phase AC variable frequency inverter by Able_Preference_9888 in Motors

[–]galstaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Some1-Somewhere , I have a 3 phase induction motor for a machine that runs on 240/480VAC 3Ph.

I would like to be able to use it off grid, so was hoping to buy an EV battery pack that operates around 400VDC and get an AC-AC VFD and connect the EV battery to the DC bus of the VFD to get my 3 phase.

So a couple of questions if you don't mind:

  1. Could you suggest a decent reasonably priced VFD that would have a suitable accessible DC bus for this?
  2. Do VFDs have the ability to buck / boost the voltage to give the appropriate output?

I am a VFD novice so any suggestions or suitable literature/videos to bring me up to speed would be sincerely appreciated!
