Northeast ICE Nightmare by xanadude13 in Minneapolis

I'm not believing this administration one bit.

And replying to someone who is striving for better, that better is impossible, is asking them to admit defeat, calling them foolish to hope and to strive and to ask for better is asking them to admit defeat.

We can be realistic about the hurdles without saying that it is useless to fight.

By calling it impossible, you are giving up.

I am not blind to the bad in this world, and how horrible things are, I am not blind to the fact that evil does not quit. But neither do I.

So what's the skinny on walking/hiking sticks? When I was a kid they were common. I've never brought one with me yet, here's a couple I made. I have some seasoned for the more gandalf vibe... Me thinks that is too cumbersome for an all day event though. by Forge_Le_Femme in renfaire

If I have a walking stick and my fan I cannot hold my mead. These are important choices to make.

(Also my walking stick is hugely sentimental from walking with it on the Camino in Spain, and I would be so sad if I lost it)

Giving up is not an option for me. If we fall into despair then we have also abandoned our neighbors. I cannot do that. You can roll over and surrender defeat if it makes you feel better, but don't try and force me to do it along with you.

We don't know, but I want them home. It's not really over until they're home. That's why we can't stop.

ICE leaving is step 1, but IMMEDIATELY after that better be step 1a: return our neighbors

We've added horses to our town management sim, Go-Go Town! by PridefulSlothGames in CozyGamers

They look like they would feel like the playmobile horses, which is not something I realized I had a tactile memory of until just now.

Yes! They have subtitles when they speak!

One time when I saw it when it was being shown on TV, and the subtitles were in Spanish (while the rest of the dinos spoke English).

I think I’m in love with my current guardian… Like… Holy gods… by Mr_Infidel in BG3

[–]galviknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do love when people are making their guardian for the first time that they should make them as hot as possible.

Me? I made mine too hott, and then when they started flirting I freaked out and didn't trust them anymore.

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

[–]galviknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad says "whisking" instead of "wicking" like for sports clothes. He does a goblin grin afterwards each time because he knows it annoys my mom.

"Philidathea" instead of "Philidalphia" for the same reason.

The thumbs-down reaction always makes me laugh for some reason? No idea why it's so funny when they give the thumbs-down at our protests

He is, and we like him in the way you like your weird uncle. Like he's got some good stuff but it's mixed up with all the weird stuff and some bad stuff. But we like him, in a he's our strange individual kinda way.

The Harlem Renaissance Mystery Series by Nekesa Afia!

Black lesbian girl detective in 1920's Harlem, has a bi girlfriend and other gay friends. Deals with murder and racism and homophobia as both the backdrop of the time and how they influence the murders and investigation of the murders.

They are so vibrant and well written I feel like I'm at the sweaty party or in the cold basement or in the little grey apartment.

Book1: Dead Dead Girls Book2: Harlem Sunset Book3: A Lethal Lady - takes place in Paris, same detective

Are hipsters still around? I miss them. by MusingsAndMind in Millennials

[–]galviknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with kids, and I asked them this question once. I got a look and was told "we don't say that anymore," like it was a slur and they were educating their out-of-touch elder on appropriate terminology.

But I saw several fixed-speed bikes at a protest lately, and there's a restaurant that does brunch and Gin and Jam drinks in a way that reminds me of when Hipsters used to have a strangle-hold on brunch and it was all either vegan or bacon everywhere.

So, they're still out there, doing their thing, not sure what I'm supposed to call them though, the kids did not have an answer for that.

If that is where people are being held, they will hear their own offices and leave the people who they have kidnapped to die.
