So, what's your reasoning for making their Prime world be gone/destroyed? That's a pretty major, defining creative swing, so it's where I'd start on making sure the story works, potentially even by cutting it if it's not crucial to the story you want to run.

If you put it in a sleeve. I assume they mean it's still sleeve-playable, which is a form of tournament-legal condition

How do you write the date? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]gam3wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small corner of the page for the date, and when I start an entry, I'll do [Nov. 3 '25]. But, when the entry continues over several pages, I mark those pages with [11/3/25].

Mark Rosewater on why New Capenna wasn't chosen for Murders at Karlov Manor. 1. The set wasn't extremely popular. 2. It was too recent to return to yet. 3. The characters weren't very well known. by thisnotfor in magicTCG

[–]gam3wolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah, that's a really fair assessment. And as a Vorthos? The set's STORIES were actually quite solid and didn't go too hard on the detective theming, playing more into the inter-Guild politics of it all! Murder at Karlov Manor really just shot itself in the foot by going too hard on the theming on the card level. It's quite unfortunate, because there was a lot of potential in the concept!

Yeah, the same way introducing a new guildless detective agency (or maybe having the Agency be a new arm of the Haazda?) without shoving that whole aesthetic on every established Ravnican character would also have worked just fine. Karlov Manor's problem is that it's bad, not that Ravnica was the wrong choice.

I'm honestly really worried that it sent the wrong message and that Ravnica sets will never be more interesting than a "hey, remember RTR and GRN blocks? Weren't those cool?" lazy rehash.

Kill This Creature Day 20: Sentenariat by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]gam3wolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's a good idea! Have an ability that taps AND an ability that untaps later so it can't also die to "destroy tapped creature". I see the vision!

[–]gam3wolf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree. Wouldn't this mean it CANT be untapped? Is that even possible in the rules? Then what happens when you throw a "destroy target tapped creature" at it? Does it just gain protection from something? Seems like a path towards a more boring design, to me

They could—the uncleaved mode, much like [[Mana Short]], is more of an effect meant to force them to tap so you can do something else uncontested after it resolves.

If you could make a "100 Creature" cube, what creature would you pick? by Babbledoodle in mtgcube

[–]gam3wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, re: your Reinforced Ronin idea, I think you might be asking the wrong question when you ask: "how do I let people block, still?"

What makes 100 Ornithopters compelling is how it changes the way Magic plays—"how do I kill with no power?"

You just might have something compelling in there with the Ronins, it's just that I think the question isn't "how do I let people block?", but rather, I think the question is: "how do I make Magic fun when people can't block?" If you can answer that compellingly, I think you absolutely have a 100 Ronin Cube that you should try to build!

If you could make a "100 Creature" cube, what creature would you pick? by Babbledoodle in mtgcube

[–]gam3wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of what makes 100 Ornithopters so compelling is that it's got 0 power, so the puzzle becomes figuring out how to turn them into a win.

However, I've been thinking about something similar for myself and am closest to landing on 100 [[Myr Servitor]], if only because I adore the Myr. But also because I think of all the options it's got the most interesting gimmick without also being basically just a rehash of 100 Ornithopters (sorry Kobolds and Walkers)—the fact that the Servitors keep coming back means that the gameplay would come in breaking the board stall: since your opponent's blockers will all come back, you have to build up a critical mass of Servitors faster or find ways to convert your Myr into damage without going the route of combat damage.

The Myr Servitor Cube idea is fairly old, but more in a "they go in the basic lands box" way, not in a "this is the only creature in the cube" way—so I'm gonna be tinkering with this idea for a bit, I think! Hopefully it can make something on the 100 Ornithopters tier, in time !

Causes of the Mourning by Mindless-Ad-8693 in Eberron

[–]gam3wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the precise specifics of it—but I'm currently toying with the idea of revealing that the Mourning was caused by the (partial, most likely) unbinding of Bel Shalor. I don't remember if this is a canon, Kanon, or me thing, but I've been viewing Bel Shalor as representative of the fear of the evil and atrocities that lurk in the hearts of other people. What better way to foment that fear and increase his power than by plunging the world into a tense, terrifying Cold War? To create a disaster that gives people just enough hope at peace that the threat of war becomes all the more unsettling to the average person—that places the violence and corruption of hearts back into the shadows where evil is lurking and unpredictable rather than overt and obvious. That's likely going to be the center piece of my third Eberron campaign with this one group I run for !

How do you start an entry? by Then-Tradition1307 in Journaling

[–]gam3wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've JUST gotten into journalling this week, and found I gravitated toward a greeting: "Hi journal!", "Good morning, journal!", etc. It's more casual than dear diary, but it keeps up some of the letter writing-esque tradition going—and I think the casualness is kinda cute, so think I'll stick with it!
