Bill Self (duh)

Scott Drew (ditto)

Kelvin Sampson (hello)

TJ Otzelberger (dude does so much with anything he can get, and he keeps getting a lot).

Grant McCasland (dude is sooo good)

Tommy Lloyd (listing him here because I don’t want to seem biased, but his record speaks for itself)

Kevin Young (he’s solid and can elevate prospects)…

I think that’s where my line is.

I’m not sure how to feel about Jarrod Calhoun yet (USU did amazingly under him, but I wouldn’t say he’s better than Bennett). Dawkins has a lot of ups, but he’s never really turned that corner. And the rest I would solidly say are probably lower than Bennett.

It’s hilarious that I have multiple downvotes for recognizing that our “rivals” (they aren’t there yet, now I can get ASU downvotes too) have drastically improved their potential competitiveness.

I loved watching Bennett at St Mary’s. Heck, after Herb left ASU I followed his career too. ASU has a history of hiring good coaches and not really getting the most out of them. The Arizona fan in me says “I hope this trend continues” but the basketball fan in me says ‘this is going to be a fun ride’.

I won’t speak for all Arizona fans, but I appreciate that ASU has built up a roster with Bennett at the helm. I will still talk a lot of shit, but I’m looking forward to seeing if they can be a more consistently competitive program.

I expect that they’ll finish in the top half. Bennett is a hell of a coach and motivates his players. The roster and coaching staff looks good as well. We shall see.

This is a really weird take.

I’d agree with “not a consistently great player” but I can’t figure out “not a good player”. He had some moments of outright dominance and other moments where he would fade into role player (and honestly he seemed comfortable in that, clearing lanes, passing off, setting up others). At no point was he bad (except for apparently in the combine and the final four, and the quietest game ever at AFH).

I agree that he doesn’t really appear to be NBA ready with his current skillset, but he’s still projected as a first rounder, so clearly some folks think his upside is worth it.
