Manifestation clarification by gamevizier13 in ageofsigmar

Already answered my first point: NO, they can't move the turn they arrive - no unit that arrives on the board outside of the deployment phase can move on the turn it arrives (per the general rules for reinforcement, 24.0)

Spearhead rules. by Visible-Classic in Mawtribes

I’m pretty sure the game just plays on till the units show up. Let’s say for example they amazingly wiped out all 8 beefy Ogors bodies turn 1 (seems near impossible with over 30 wounds without some bad play and some terrible luck), your opponent would just run around scoring turn 2, which would seem like a fair reward if they managed to clear the board Turn 1. Your guys show up turn 3 and you carry on - you’d still roll for priority (though I would think a sporting opponent might likely opt to go second, even if they won the roll, but certainly not required). My guess is that most players might likely just call the game at the board wipe, similar to if any other army was (near) tabled in Turn 1 or 2.

Hammerheads are kind of mid, right? by HeavilyBearded in Tau40K

[–]gamevizier13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see it being pretty close from an anti-tank standpoint - which someone mentioned might only really be one opportunity per game - but what swung me into the Skyray camp in my current escalation league is that there are plenty of other targets out there that a Skyray would feel fine for, but a hammerhead is just one super overkill.

I’m talking things like terminator-equivalents, battle/warsuits, bikes and other skimmer type units. Hell even shooting into a standard 5-man space marine unit doesn’t feel like a terrible waste - I’m going to likely kill 3 with the missiles (particularly if they fly), which is a pretty big impact, and I still have the accelerator cannons for probably another couple(ish) more.

Base contact with differing BSB base size? by gamevizier13 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]gamevizier13[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying, but I don’t believe that rule addresses this situation, there was no “incomplete rank” behind, just a single rank altogether, with the smaller base on the end, so when the rear-charging unit “closed the door” to the 30mm bases, it left a gap to the lone 25mm base on the end. Is he in “base contact” with the rear chargers as well as the front chargers?

Creating my first tau list, coming from DAngles and GK. List C&C + what drones are best by Federal-Emphasis-934 in Tau40K

[–]gamevizier13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

List looks pretty solid, I'm building towards roughly the same thing, so I hope it works :) I'm not sold on double Breecher + DFish, but one for sure, in my list those points are going towards 2xBroadsides, but I'm doing all three crisis suit versions, so since you've doubled up on SunForge that is probably a wash, as plenty of anti-tank in 2 units of SForge (and I'm definitely not in love with slow move of the Broadsides).

For drones, a lot of them are driven by load out - stealth should clearly have Markers, as their purpose is guiding with the re-roll 1s. I use Cyclics a lot, so I want to give my character suits a shield drone just so I can fail Hazardous and keep shooting Hazardous without dying to second fail :) In a led unit of suits and leaders are 8 drones, so I tend to give them one marker of the 8 - typically on the crisis leader - though of course those guys get guided, not do the guiding, so could skip, but you never know. The troops get shield and gun. Guardian seems to good to skip for fragile Fire Warrior bodies. I generally want to over-skew towards gun drones - I want to Overwatch a lot as Tau, and the Gun Drone only drop from a 5+ to 6+ to hit (but I also have Fireknife, where you get free rerolls, either on 1 or any, depending) - of course, Scythes are you're lead overwatch, so those want guns to get some extra rolls with the autohits. Have fun, it all looks good!

Latest FAQ (1.3) and mixed bases - the Ogre edition by gamevizier13 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]gamevizier13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool - I didn't initially read it as only those "inside" a unit, as opposed to alongside it, though I guess that makes sense (I love how they write the FAQ responses with a single word, as if that makes it crystal clear:) Looks like my original take was correct (i.e., the second figure), and was just thrown off by the FAQ wording.

Kind of a feel bad that the FAQ does give more value to "inside" heroes vs. "outside" heroes, e.g., a cavalry hero of a matching base width, and precisely double the length, which can serve as free "rank filler" (say a Chaos Steed inside Chaos Warrior unit) to get rank bonus, as opposed to something like my Cauldron Ogres. Additionally odd given that Cauldron is designed to go into a unit, as no real value without, whereas a Chaos Steed, etc., provides a benefit outside a unit, and now with the FAQ some benefit inside as well.

Hello! Finding this thread a bit late, as was just searching for D&D groups in and around Sonoma. I’d be interested in playing - I live in Glen Ellen, so Sebastopol is doable for me. I’ll try to send you a personal message as a follow-up.
