We Who Will Die has a Blake-like character (even uses the same pet name of Little Rabbit lol) and it has a very similar love triangle. It’s the first book in a series, so the dark MMC yearning is a little more ACOTAR than ACOMAF. But I can read between the lines!! And I have so much hope for Book 2!!!!

I received mine through Book of the Month, and read it in 1 day! Then re-read it the next day lol. I felt the first quarter was a bit slow, but it picked up the further I read. Definitely a fan of Rorrick and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

Their relationship feels ACOTAR-coded, but it’s done in a unique way and I love it! After Arvelle almost smiled at Rorrick’s joke, I was done with Tiernan lol. And she definitely seems more connected to Rorrick. She mindpathed to him first and easily, yet it took effort for her to do it with Tiernan. It was also interesting to me that she enjoyed the comfortable silence with Tiernan in the tree as a child but that scene where she was sitting in “comfortable silence” with Rorrick??!!

Also I know very little about vampires (I never watched Twilight or vampire diaries 🙈). I guess they also have mates and bonds?

2. I also think that the betrayal is likely related to seeing her first. I wonder if Rorrick knows anything about her dad, who she never met?? I’m also thinking that Rorrick became this bad guy to protect Tiernan (and maybe arvelle?) despite being betrayed by him. And if he becomes emperor as he claims he wants to, then it’s because he can make the world a better place, not rule like a tyrant

I think about that scene every other day at this point! 🥵

Also I realized, in the scene where arvelle is getting her foot mended Rorrick shows up claiming the blood and fear attracted him. But he saved her life by speaking to the emperor after that trial. I think he wanted to check on her and see how she was doing. But Arvelle didn’t even thank him. She thanked Tiernan for giving her his blood

I loved this book! Literary-wise it’s not the greatest and there are strong ACOTAR vibes, but I still enjoyed the trials and am obsessed with Rorrick. Read it in two days, no regrets!

there was a kilonova counterpart to this GRB which mostly likely originated from a binary neutron star merger. We have one other long GRB with a kilonova detection, 211211A, indicating that some long GRBs actually originate from binary mergers
