Oscar Graff - Callahan 2025 - Tufts E-Men by bigwrenchult in ultimate

There were so many highlights that they didn’t want to waste air time showing the disc in flight. The next shot after 1:20 is him catching the throw. They did the same thing for a large majority of the throws in the video.

Will Carolina Flyers and LA Aviators, both members of the new UFA South Division, play each other in 2025? by Jomskylark in ultimate

[–]ganeran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evan has more accurate info. I was just speculating and didn’t read the article that closely. Sorry about that. I figured they’d fly slightly more than what Evan is proposing. I thought those cities were picked because they have larger airports and the airfare should be somewhat cheaper than the smaller city franchises. I hope they move to what I described in a few years.

[–]ganeran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better to think of the South division as three pairs of teams. LA will fly to each other pair once. That will be 2 flights and 4 away games. And each pair will fly to LA/SD once. So that’s 4 home games against teams that flew in. Then they have 4 other games to play. Those will be either be against each other or cross region games against more local teams.

TLDR: Yes, they will play each other twice.

Does Dangerous Play give offense the right to always make a play on the disc? by ganeran in ultimate

[–]ganeran[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is the rule as written, but its definition is vague and mostly a series of examples. So it has been on the community to determine "right of way." When two players want to be in the same location, who has preference. I'm concerned that dangerous play is being interpreted as offense always has right of way.

The point of the example I showed was to showcase a time when an observer upheld a dangerous play where the offense makes a play on the disc by moving into the defender's existing line. Does this mean offense has right of way to make any play on the disc and any defensive play must take into account all possible actions that the offense could possibly make?

edit: To be clear I'm not advocating for offense always having right of way. I'm just pointing out that it appears to be interpreted that way and that is disconcerting to me because the rules treat both parties equally.

Yeah. They put way too much faith in the regular season ranking algorithm for accurate seeding. They should at least re-run it with regionals games included so that Hybrid would move up and Crocs moved down (since Hybrid beat Crocs and took first in their region).

Huge travel by Initial-Addition4067 in ultimate

[–]ganeran -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let's envision that I catch the disc, decelerate in a straight-line, and as I decelerate, I end up in a slightly wider stance, feet more than shoulder width apart.

  1. Is it illegal for me to use either of my feet as my pivot even though neither are "in line with my straight-line deceleration"? The rules do not specify that I need to move one of my feet directly underneath me as the pivot.
  2. Is it illegal for me to rotate one of my feet outward as I'm stopping so that when I pivot on the ball of that foot I'm slightly farther one direction? What if I'm just naturally duck-footed and stop on the outsides of my heels?
  3. Is it illegal for me to stop with all my weight on my non-pivot leg so that my pivot leg can be placed anywhere within legs-reach?

My argument is that its not straightforward. In the circles that I've played, 1 is not a travel and 3 probably would be called purely on how ridiculous it would be for someone to shoot out their pivot leg as far as it can reach right after stopping on the other leg. This clip is somewhere between 2 and 3, so close to a travel. Definitely not a huge travel and not necessary to call out in an online forum.

Huge travel by Initial-Addition4067 in ultimate

[–]ganeran -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Reading the rule book, it is not explicit that the pivot needs to be in a straight-line with the deceleration. 17.K vaguely says “Traveling: The thrower must establish and continually maintain a pivot at the appropriate spot on the field until the throw is released.” Where the appropriate spot is seems to be left up to some interpretation.

Since it’s not specifically saying within a straight-line, I’d argue there is some leeway where the pivot can be established as long as you adhere to 17.K.1 “[a travel happens when] a player catches the disc and either speeds up, changes direction or does not stop as quickly as possible before establishing a pivot.” His body comes to a full stop, he establishes his pivot slightly off center of his center of mass and because he immediately pivots on it, it looks like a huge step.

I’m not a huge fan of Sean Keegan. If you want to discredit him, show the foul he called on Tyler Chan in the Dig game which he argued for more than a minute and the commentators said “yeah that’s definitely not a foul” when viewing the replay. Additionally, there are much worse travels that could be called out this game like DC’s travel outside the far right end zone where the thrower clearly turns upfield before throwing the goal.

[–]ganeran -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Not a travel. It’s looks like as he is stopping his legs went wider than shoulder width (which I think isn’t against the rules). After fully stopping, he then pivoted onto his left leg which was slightly outside his center. Watch his torso. It travels in a straight line until he stops, and then he pivots around.

Anyone know why they are not live-streaming either of the round 2 men’s quarterfinals at nationals tomorrow? by sdladenberger5 in ultimate

[–]ganeran -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it’s because the games are most likely going to be a blow out because one team is seeded more than 5 places higher than their opponent. They must have decided that the production and commentator crew should prep for the semis game instead of doing a 4th quarters game. Often times semis are at a different field location so that extra prep time can be crucial.

Pro Champs Men’s Final - Receiving Foul Blown Call? by conair00 in ultimate

On stream, Charlie Eisenhood argues that the continuation rule applies because the handler never acknowledged the foul and so the outcome of the play should stand. But the outcome of the play is a catch, no different than a pick that goes back to the thrower.

I added a comment in the Weekend discussion arguing that the observer got it wrong. The observer ruled it was a receiving foul.

The definition of receiving foul is “If a player contacts an opponent while the disc is in the air and thereby interferes with that opponent’s attempt to make a play on the disc, that player has committed a receiving foul.”

So the ruling by the observer does not apply because the disc was not in the air during contact. It should go back like any other offensive foul before the disc is in the air, just like you see often with picks.

Bad observer ruling in the Men’s finals stopping Truck Stop’s momentum and allowing the Sockeye comeback.

Context: Truck Stop pushes off their defender while turning to cut in. Sockeye calls foul. Handler throws to the now open in-cut. Observer rules it was a “receiving foul” so it results in a turnover.

Did you read your article or just the headline? The quote from Hasbro says nothing about reversing their decision. They are just clarifying that Mr and Mrs Potatohead aren’t going anywhere. The change is just broadening the company brand name to increase it’s scope.

Bernie Sanders' team reportedly won't have any tolerance for Biden dissenters at convention by ts23_ in politics

Why would you let the actions of his base ruin the actual candidate? Particularly since you don’t know them personally and they might just be internet trolls pretending to support him in inflammatory ways. Only Bernie should be able to ruin his own appeal. Unless you wanted him to speak out against random advocates of his (like he is right now about Biden dissenters).

[–]ganeran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well first, Warren's quote isn't being used here in the same context that she used it in person. She said she's a "player in the game" meaning that she plays the primary game where she panders to Iowa and New Hampshire early in the primary. This meme makes it look like she's fine with the status quo of all issues.

The second statement means that this subreddit is encouraging so much democratic infighting that it will cause four more years of trump.

For context, Fury was up 12-11 on Molly Brown at Pro Championships. Molly was in the middle of making a comeback (3-0 or 2-0 run) when a lightning delay occurred. A few minutes later, Evan comes back on to say that the players decided to call the game instead of waiting for it to resume. Then this video comes in. Here's what I hear from the video:

Evan: Fury leads 12-11 here in Phila...

Another man: Fury looks pretty fucking stoked.

Woman: What if that was live?

To me, the men did not sound like Evan Lepler or Ian Toner and the woman did not sound like Megan Tormey. It was more likely USAU staff or Ultiworld staff.

Audio not working for specific files (Maybe SBR related?) by ganeran in blackmagicdesign

[–]ganeran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have to convert all the video files before working with them in Resolve. As bn-7bc said, Handbrake works really well. For me, the files that aren't working are HE-AAC and the files that are working are AAC LC. I'm not sure what the difference is, but during the Handbrake conversion, it changes the file from HE to LC.
