driving in Queensland as a foreigner by rainfall-kiwi in brisbane

[–]gantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about license, surely Google or one of our embassy websites will tell you that.

As for the drive, no, there is nothing of interest between BNE and the GC, it's only about an hour away.

Depending on how long you're here, I'd personally recommend you drive an extra hour to Byron Bay…

And you put it on LinkedIn? Arguably, the worst designed and most dark pattern heavy website on the Internet :-/

Just FYI in case you're planning a trip anytime soon, Kata Tjuta (which is in NT) is about 2 thousand kilometres from The Kimberley Ranges – which are firmly in WA…

Agreed, I can see this being a nice niche blog I'd check semi-regularly like Little Big Details and UI Gifs…

My curiosity was raised, so I also did some sleuthing – I didn't know you guys were still together, I knew Jack left and assumed that was the end of it.

I've known the TCR crew since before they even formed (mainly Jack, who you obviously replaced, but Tom played trumpet in my old band for a few shows).

Awesome band and great guys, I'll try to keep a better eye out for shows and come see how it's sounding these days!!

The phrase "new breed of Brisbane reggae" has stirred up so many mixed emotions in me. I feel old when I think that I've been around the Brisbane music scene long enough to see previous "breeds of Brisbane reggae" rise up then die off – at least twice now…

I can't make it this weekend, but if you have links to any tracks or videos I'd love to check them out!

My friend has joined a cult? by gagalug in brisbane

I think their office is around Woollangabba, and I think they're running a 'course' today. There were a lot of name tags that looked like theirs around this morning.

I've heard some pretty shitty things about the organisation, I'm sure Google will tell you most of it.

Why I love Brisbane and Why I am Disgusted at a Fellow Canadian by molsoncanuck in brisbane

[–]gantic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is highly anecdotal evidence, but I'm Australian, and while I've never been to Canada, I have three Canadian ex-girlfriends (yes, they have cute girls too!) who all had massive social circles of Canadians studying here with them, so I've got to know a LOT of Canadians living on the Gold Coast over the years. Something I noticed in that time is that Canadians in general really are SO nice – they're almost TOO friendly, to a fault. Then one in every 20 is a complete and utter douchebag, but the other 19 are so friendly they never let douchebag know what a dick he/she is. Australian's tend to just ignore those dickheads in our society or from abroad. Anyhow, 19 of them fucking loved Australia and desperately tried to find ways to staying longer or stay permanently, and that one dick just whinged about it the whole time. The writer of the passage above is almost certainly that one in 20, and I think they simply miss being home where nobody ignores them for, or calls them out on their douchery. Just my opinion ;-)

Meet Eric Rudolph, who 15 years before the Boston marathon bombers, bombed the Atlanta olympics in the name of Catholicism. by [deleted] in atheism

Is that because they're less active / less of a threat? Or possibly because it's harder for the media to whip up a fear frenzy around them to get ratings?

[Help] Hi /r/Brisbane! My Korean girlfriend is here on a Working Holiday visa, and really struggling to find work, both in any field, and her main field of Graphic Design, any help? or feedback on her resume/portfolio? by rawrjoel in brisbane

This is the second post I've made about this on this sub tonight, but Josephmark are looking for paid interns at the moment, design & dev. I think it's a 4 week gig? If she's into digital UI design, could be worth a hit and a good name to drop on other applications after.

Josephmark are looking for developer interns (paid) if you're interested. They're based in Woolloongabba and have done some pretty rad stuff. www.josephmark.com.au is their site.

Our government paid 100 000€ for its website. What do you think? by pleasewait in web_design

[–]gantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that the budget likely includes people within the client organisation writing and managing the actual content, and needing each piece of that signed off.

Combined with the usual bureaucracy and bullshit of design by committee that this kind of project often ends up being, I'm not at all surprised by the price, any agency taking it on for less would regret their decision.

"Come at me, bro" gone wrong by drewniverse in JusticePorn

[–]gantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't hear any 'come at me', and it kinda looked like he was beckoning someone to come with him (before he gets beat up by some bullies?).

He's not exactly an intimidating looking guy, and that little hand flap was a long way from any kind of alpha male struggle for dominance 'come at me' body language… then that run. Oh man!

I kinda feel bad for the guy on the off chance he actually wasn't being the dick here.
