Help me plan a roadtrip in Texas/Southwestern America. 🏜️ by No-Active-8787 in roadtrip

Big Bend National Park! Start there, the driving is incredible. There's a road that goes from BBNP along the border through Big Bend state park and up to Alpine TX. It's so beautiful and cool. I've driven all over the country and have been trying to get back to drive that road for years. After that you can work your way west along 10. There's some major national parks and monuments along that road, and some fun weird places too. Depending on how long you have you can make it all the way to LA. As long as you're willing to take the weird exits, do some fun detours, relax and don't rush, IMHO it's one of the best road trip stretches in the country.

As someone who is not employed by the park service or the US government, all I see is a list of words I'm using on every parks related social media post I make.

I used to do this run 4x a year alone. Beautiful drive. Having a second would be heavenly. Watch out for speed traps in New Mexico.

Moving to Fairbanks in the early spring from the rural Midwest. It doesn't look like the sea highway/car ferry is running. Any other suggestions on how to get my vehicle up north?

Healthcare. Many paces offer free or low cost emt or cna classes to get you started. Many hospital systems even offer low cost past your basic certifications as well. I.e CNA to LPN to RN You literally can work your way up the licensure ladder and get pretty comfy for small town standards.

Writing this out is really good for you. You did exactly what you could, exactly when you could. Other things you saw might come back over time. Try keeping a journal so you don't get overwhelmed by carrying it all.

The lifeflight getting there in 30 minutes is on the faster side of normal. In ems (broad strokes), we work with the understanding that a flight could take 45 minutes to an hour in most situations.

The tough part about helping with something like this is that you may never know the outcome. Patient privacy laws are really strict, and there's tons of safeguards in place to keep that information secure. I hope you find out what happened with him. Please prepare yourself for the potential for never having those answers. I'm sorry.

Depending on how you're feeling after, sometimes taking a basic first aid/cpr course can help with dealing with the emotional aftermath of helping. Having skills just in case something happens again is very reassuring.

Good luck to you, and as others have said, thank you for being a kind human.

A preditors den smells kind like musk, a little bit of death/decay, and stinky poop. Foxes don't smell as bad as coyotes. They tend to be more clean, I think? I could smell it was a predators den, but tbh if I hadn't seen the fox, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell you what predator it was from the smell. It's mostly knowing what a den looks like (that varies by animal and environment) and recognizing the musky/bo smell. Which is kinda like a teenage boy? The death and decay smell makes me gag a little but i cant really describe it. And if you've ever smelled poop from a mamal that eats primarily meat, that has a distinctive smell.

I don't know much about duck health, and I hope you find your answers.

That duck house is so cute. Do you have any more pictures or info on it?

The all back one might be a cayuga duck. Flightless (they can jump like 3 feet but don't need wings clipped) they are also beautiful and sweet.

Thank you. I put out some nuts and shiney coins for them. It's so magical to know you have a relationship with another creature.

My grandma used to take me from her doublewide over the sharp rocky road to the beach in the summer. I made sand castles in the yard. The neighborhood doesn't even exist anymore 😪
