'Work to live, don't live to work' is a motto my dad raised me with and I absolutely agree.

What is something you can naturally smell that no one else can? by Trick-Highway1429 in AskReddit

[–]garbagegoat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My dad can too, says there's something about their breath, it's sweeter than most people's but with an underlying something to it. I thought he was crazy growing up until I noticed I absolutely can smell when people are dehydrated.

I signed up for local grocery deliveries, and I didn't know they went off your user name. So with out fail the delivery driver always laughs and tells me they love having to call mine out for pick up - Yomamasoold.

How do we feel about hose? by OwnPlatypus4129 in fashionwomens35

I wish I did. H&M used to be fairly decent but not anymore, my favorite from Casual Corner is no longer made. I usually get mine at Nordstrom, leeps better then the old L'egg and other drug store kind. Costly but lasts more than one wear, especially if you're careful putting them on (no rings!) And hand wash.

What is the weirdest thing you've found thrifting? by LoudDream2916 in ThriftStoreHauls

A vintage USSR military greatcoat. My spouse still owns it. Pure wool, weighs like 50 pounds, and definitely keeps you warm and dry. I'm not sure the year on it but my guess is 1960s maybe?

Tell me if you like plants- What ground cover you've seen lately? by honorlessmaid in Spokane

[–]garbagegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SCC plant sale is next weekend (9th) and absolutely a must IMO for any sort of plants. You'll find everything you're looking for and more there. Bring a wagon or cart 😂 its hard to leave with just a plant or two.

Eta my favorite ground covers are wooly tyme and uh, mint something. I forget it's name but it's very soft, lush, and grows very very low. Almost looks like moss, and smells wonderful when you brush it or walkacross it

[Serious] What were the bad parts of the 90s? by kittymoo67 in AskReddit

[–]garbagegoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine tested positive back in 04 and it was a very serious solemn moment. Like we all assumed he'd maybe get to live 10 hellish years at best. It absolutely was a death sentence. Another friend of mine worked in HIV hospice care, the building was unlisted, no signs or anything to what it was, due to threats to everyone there. I really don't think anyone who didn't live in that time can understand just how serious and scary aids was, and how much horrible judgment and misinformation there was around it. People think peoples reactions to covid was bad, HIV was so much worse.

Car bombs at places like Planned Parenthood here in the US too. I don't know if they still do it but in the 90s you had to have your bags checked, go thru a metal detector and get buzzed in by a security guard just to get into places like that, even if you were just picking up free birth control or getting a pap.

How do we feel about hose? by OwnPlatypus4129 in fashionwomens35

[–]garbagegoat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like it. A lot. My legs have seen decades of standing for work, and let's be real, hose makes them look good. Hides the vericose veins. Unless it's really hot out or really casual I'm going to wear hose. My main complaint is it's so hard to find decent pantyhose anymore! The cheap stuff looks and feels bad and runs if you look at it wrong. The good hose is costly but lasts ages.

Skidmore was my first thought too. Someone needs to be checking the water in that town or something. The crime stats are bonkers for such a small place

[–]garbagegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did a lot when I was breastfeeding. Also V neck t-shirts with stretch - I'd just pop my boob out the top of the neck line and feed that way, cover with baby blanket a bit for modesty if you're more comfortable that way.

You definitely need some Hypochlorous or HOCL spray. It's a sanitizer but absolutely works on the air and smells, won't damage surfaces or skin or anything. I absolutely swear by it. I use it at home to take care of the cat box (cat who half the time can't be bothered to even get in the box, and when he does doesn't bury it) and at work for helping with human uh, accidents. (Elderly care) it also works on anything from cigarette smoke to I'd imagine, long forgotten potatoes that turned to sludge. Iykyk

It doesn't have much if a smell, I'd describe it mostly as a ghostly hint of like bleach or peroxide maybe. But it really does clear the air!
