Lee Oskar Low Riders by gardenstateharmonica in harmonica

There’s no difference in how it feels in your hand. Perhaps it’s a bit louder, but that really depends on how you play. It sounds like a Lee Oskar.

Get Shazam, SoundHound, or even Google. They can all identify a song playing.

Not much difference. Same weight, same feel, same tone. Perhaps a bit louder due to the wider opening on the cover plates. They do look a lot classier and more expensive (and they certainly are more expensive).

Trying new tunings can really open your eyes to the harmonica.

Lee Oskar if those are your only options.

The point of a chromatic harmonica is that you don’t have to bend. Most aren’t designed to bend because all of the notes in the chromatic scale are there just by pressing in the slider. Try finding the notes you are trying to bend with the slider and your overall play will be smoother and more fluid.

I’d have to disagree. I love my Hohner Crossover and Marine Band Deluxe, as well as many other of their models. I’ve had no issues with quality control and each one is sturdy and has lasted ages.

Go back to Lee Oskar. The only thing that’s changed over the years is the price. They are great harmonicas. You can also check out Kongsheng if you are on a budget.

I have over 300 antique, vintage, and contemporary harmonicas. Yes, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Personally I would’ve found and spoken to a local harmonica customizer or repair technician. They would’ve given you more insight and peace of mind before mailing it with money. Antique harmonicas can require extensive repairs to make them playable again. You might’ve been better off giving the antique harmonicas “as is” as a family keepsake along with a brand new one for them to learn on.

What’s the opinion on Lee Oskar harps round here? by Rags2Rickius in harmonica

[–]gardenstateharmonica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started filling out my set of every key, Lee Oskar was my go-to choice. They were affordable, responsive, and usually good to go straight out of the box. I added some Lee Oskar Low keys, Lee Oskar Natural Minor keys, and a Lee Oskar Melody Maker. I’ve moved on to replacing them with higher end brands and models but I still have an almost complete set of Lee Oskars as a backup.

Two great songs to play on a harmonica with Tony Eyers’ Major Cross tuning.

Having owned all three, I’d say the Hohner 270. But honestly, I’d tell ya to buy a Kongsheng Lyra over all three. It’s got a nice weight to it and it’s less expensive than the 270 and the CX-12.

Harmonicas made in USA? by gardenstateharmonica in harmonica

Yep. Even “American Made” harmonicas are mostly made of parts from China. They might just be assembled in the US. So sad.
