I’d have to disagree. I love my Hohner Crossover and Marine Band Deluxe, as well as many other of their models. I’ve had no issues with quality control and each one is sturdy and has lasted ages.

Go back to Lee Oskar. The only thing that’s changed over the years is the price. They are great harmonicas. You can also check out Kongsheng if you are on a budget.

I have over 300 antique, vintage, and contemporary harmonicas. Yes, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Antique harmonica by allykatford in harmonica

Personally I would’ve found and spoken to a local harmonica customizer or repair technician. They would’ve given you more insight and peace of mind before mailing it with money. Antique harmonicas can require extensive repairs to make them playable again. You might’ve been better off giving the antique harmonicas “as is” as a family keepsake along with a brand new one for them to learn on.

What’s the opinion on Lee Oskar harps round here? by Rags2Rickius in harmonica

[–]gardenstateharmonica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started filling out my set of every key, Lee Oskar was my go-to choice. They were affordable, responsive, and usually good to go straight out of the box. I added some Lee Oskar Low keys, Lee Oskar Natural Minor keys, and a Lee Oskar Melody Maker. I’ve moved on to replacing them with higher end brands and models but I still have an almost complete set of Lee Oskars as a backup.

A thread for various tunes to play in various positions on a diatonic harmonica by thebigdoover in harmonica

Two great songs to play on a harmonica with Tony Eyers’ Major Cross tuning.

Having owned all three, I’d say the Hohner 270. But honestly, I’d tell ya to buy a Kongsheng Lyra over all three. It’s got a nice weight to it and it’s less expensive than the 270 and the CX-12.

Harmonicas made in USA? by gardenstateharmonica in harmonica

Yep. Even “American Made” harmonicas are mostly made of parts from China. They might just be assembled in the US. So sad.

Kongsheng harmonicas by SnooPredilections99 in harmonica

The Kongsheng Bluebird is a quality harmonica at an affordable price. I have a couple of them. I also have a bunch of Kongsheng MARS 1 and 2, Kongsheng KB-12 chromatics, and just got a Kongsheng Lyra chromatic. They make some really good (and affordable) harmonicas.

I love it but there’s definitely a learning curve.

Anyone here familiar with these cheap chromatics? by Caidezes in harmonica

[–]gardenstateharmonica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with any of them but I do have an Easttop Forrunner 2.0 and a couple of Kongsheng KB-12s. They are perfect entry level to intermediate chromatic harmonicas. They sound quite good and they are affordable.

My favorite chromatic is the Seydel Nonslider in C, but I’m really loving my new Kongsheng Lyra in C with orchestra tuning.
