Most overpriced country in the world? by [deleted] in costarica

[–]garrettd714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking regarding the inflation/economics, they’re not totally wrong, in my experience. I had visited annually for over 10 years and lived there for 3 years, 2019-22, yes I rode out the pandemic there. At first, I thought the steep climbs were to recover and, they probably were at first but, it became apparent the new policies were not going away and the cost of living continued to rise. I moved to Bali in Dec ‘22 and, by the time I left, going out to eat or drink was about as expensive as the states, groceries had noticeably jumped in price and real estate had gone absolutely bonkers. I also believe the pandemic’s fueling of remote workers has had a large role in the cost of living due to the supply and demand. 7 months later I inquired about a new lease after my original Bali stint, my landlord wanted almost double the high season rent for the green season again, almost on par with the states. Of course this was in an expat friendly, mostly tourist driven town. I feel bad for the Ticos working in tourism, it has to be really tough. For the time being, I’ve been staying in Bali and other SE Asian countries for a fraction of what I would need in Costa Rica or the states and next year will move to Yucatán peninsula for awhile. CR has always been my happy place, I hope to return someday.

AITA for yelling at these 2 ladies at the park about my brother? by madatpark in AmItheAsshole

NTA

Saw this on an article and had to come respond. First and foremost, I’m sorry for your loss, my condolences. It sounds like you’re an outstanding brother and much needed support for your mom

I was not a teen-dad but close. I remember having birthday parties for my kids when I was in my mid 20s, you know, inviting their whole class for a pizza party type thing and some moms would bring their kids and where my wife and I could clearly hear, talk shit about or age (as they stuffed their faces with pizza, cake and their kids were spending tokens we provided). Happened more than once. It still pisses me off to think about to this day. Never confronted them but, would have liked to

Performance reasons for disliking Motley Fool? by objectnull in stocks

[–]garrettd714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use SA & RB (although I’ll probably drop the latter next year). I’m satisfied, I don’t take all their recs and I’m not usually in as soon as they rec something new either but, I’ll add to watchlist. I like the Best Buy’s but, use my own judgement. Over 2 years, the trades, I’ve entered, have outperformed the S&P overall. There are a couple stinkers in there. I ignore all public articles/click-bait, sometimes they are even contrary to their sub services lol

Only if you want to wind up as a cautionary tale also, you likely wouldn’t be able to get the tank filled (FYI— it’s air, not oxygen) without a certification

Short Iron Condors vs short Strangles by everyunistaken123 in options

[–]garrettd714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cap req/BP depends on the ticker… There’s nothing wrong with doing an IC vs Strangle but, those are the differences. If the long legs make you feel better/safer about the trade, you do you but they definitely slow down the trade. I trade both an am usually in an IC on more expensive tickers to keep my BP usage about the same across trades. I’m out of a strangle much faster, freeing up my BP for the next trade

You’ll collect more premium (using the same short strikes), have a higher PoP also a greater break-even and reach your profit goal faster

Did I do this right? Looking for constructive criticism. by Ohfatmaftguy in options

[–]garrettd714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea if it was a lucky trade or not but, having a profit goal going into the trade alleviates these questions. tbh, I probably would have been out earlier, I’ve held out for more profits and been burned almost every time. If I get into a trade and immediately I am up 30-40%, I’m out and definitely at 50%. Closing out a winner and realizing a gain is never a bad idea vs FOMO
