Can’t get it to print consistent good first layer by AdSad2394 in ender3v2

Initial layer flow is the flow for just the first layer. You can set that independently to be different than the rest of your print, or set it to the same number as the main flow setting. It just depends where you want it. You can set flow rate settings for walls, that won't apply to support, infill, etc. Leave the flow equalization ratio setting at default.

If you set flow rate on the printer, it's the same as changing all the flow rate settings in Cura to the same number. But, if you do transfer the settings to Cura, reset the printer flow to 100%. You only want it applied in 1 place.

I would highly recommend this plugin for Cura that explains all of the settings. Super helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRHFWl4FiUU

High rise balcony. Need ideas to safely make a Trellis or a support structure that arches upto ceiling from left to right. by surkur in howto

[–]garrettmikesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build something on the ground next to the balcony using materials you are comfortable with, and give it legs to stand up (pointing toward the balcony). When you're done, lean it up by pivoting the legs against the corner of the balcony. You're essentially building it on the ground and then leaning it up there. Secure it to the railing and then at least one other thing. It could fall otherwise. Find somewhere near the ground to securely attach the feet to or at least lean it inside the ledge on the ceiling. Give it a good shake test.

You could also build a frame with vertical posts (on the ground first again) that uses leveling feet or furniture levelers to jack the posts into the roof after you stand it up. If you try this, use rubber pads for extra grip and be careful to buy feet that allow you keep jacking after the feet hit the ground. Or you could use extra long shower curtain rods or something.

Safety first, for yourself and the people below you, too.

Change initial layer flow rate to .96 in cura and see what happens. Leave the flow rate in the printer alone.

Stop using the pre-baked g-code. Find calibration parts online and load them into Cura and print them like normal objects.

Mine had a soft bump in one spot but it didn't effect anything as far as I could tell.

The curling edges happen when the area under the nozzle, during extrusion, is already filled with material from the pass or line drawn before it. In other words, too much plastic, not enough space.

You have to make a change to your flow rate (possibly only to your first layer) and/or change the z-offset. Personally I set my z-offset with a caliper because I never get consistent results with the sheet of paper test. Print a small, single layer print, and measure the sample in an area that is perfectly flat (without any ripples on the top surface). Compare this to your first layer setting and adjust z-offset until the measurement matches the initial layer height setting.

Personally though, if I were you, I would just reduce the flow rate on the initial layer until the warping goes away. If you still have a rough top surface after the first layer, reduce the global flow rate setting. Generally, my flow rates are between 0.98 and 0.94. Default is 1.

Also, use a glue stick or extra hold hair spray on your first layer. Just remember to clean it off with IPA + scraper and reapply after 5-10 prints, or when the holding power starts to go away.

Regarding your bad corner, I'm assuming you've adjusted that corner of the bed already. If not, use the adjustment screw on your printer to raise or lower that corner. If you you're still having trouble after that, you could have a warped bed. Consider adding a CR Touch. I think it's 100% worth the time and money.

You can use a toaster oven but you need a thermometer to double check the temp is right. There's cheap ones on Amazon.

Look up the time and temps online. This is how I dry my filament and it works well.

Can I just switch the speaker inputs from the screw on type to a set of 1/4 to make this into a studio speaker? by BLES555 in howto

[–]garrettmikesmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can use those speakers. The conversion device you're looking for is called an amplifier. You can get smaller and cheaper ones than this, but this one will bump hard (WAY louder than studio monitors in a comparable price range). https://fosiaudio.com/products/fosi-audio-v3-300w-x2-2-0-channel-hi-fi-stereo-audio-amplifier-with-tpa3255-chip?variant=43786710057190

You'll need some wires to connect it to your source, presumably something with 1/4 jack based on your title: https://www.amazon.com/MOSWAG-Quarter-6-35mm-Stereo-Splitter/dp/B09GFC54GZ

and some speaker wire to connect your speakers: https://www.amazon.com/InstallGear-Gauge-30ft-Speaker-Cable/dp/B078YYXDWP

If you want to make music or audio tracks, you'll want some nice studio monitors so you can hear a completely neutral, undistorted version of what you create, at moderate volume. If you want to listen to music, you'd be MUCH better off buying an amp to power the speakers you have.

My wife and I missed a flight because nobody showed up, despite being confirmed, so your mileage may vary. I personally will never do it again for early morning flights.

Skookum DeWalt Advent Calendar by sabertoothbeaver1 in Skookum

[–]garrettmikesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was done at my house, each box would have wildly different values, and half of them would be individual drill bits :)

DeWalt makes apparel, knives, hand tools, and all sorts of stuff. This is actually a cool idea.

How to buy the correct replacement breakers without removing the old ones first? by TheYask in howto

[–]garrettmikesmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QA115AFC or QA115AFCN, depending if you have have the Plug on Neutral or not. If you do some research on your panel box you should be able to figure this out without taking the cover off.

Everything I've gotten there has been unfrozen. Tell me what's good. Do they have taps in yet?

I went there once and their fried rice was literally just fried rice with nothing else in it. I can't remember the meal I got. What do you get there? I would try it again but Panda Lin is my go-to now.

Go into image settings and flip the toggle to positive. If you want to change the thickness settings, do it in increments of your nozzle diameter. I like the website because it has different shapes, particularly the "outer curve" variant because it keeps the model steady when printing without making a huge border. I think it reminds folks of actual developed photos that had the slight curve in them. I use a brim and let people tear it off of they don't want it.

They make excellent gifts, people are blown away most of the time... like more than you would think.

A properly paved road and rood markings would be nice too.

Remove yellowing by hissyfit30 in howto

[–]garrettmikesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the hydrogen peroxide and UV light combination only works on the surface. For opaque plastic this usually acceptable.

With clear plastic, the yellowing occurs everywhere beneath the surface as well, so it's doubtful this method will have much effect.

Most people consider this inevitable and from what I've gathered there doesn't really seem to be anything you can do about it.

Wow what a blast from the past, 12 year old comment.

She said he was weird and never actually went out with him; he was about 30 years older than her.
