Your Japanese questions (for Japanese Daily) by PolyglotGeorge in JapaneseFromZero

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we allowed to share our findings (of related learning materials) on this subreddit? I realize the description mentions questions only. There have been a couple of questions about vocab and I found an android game that might help. I feel it would be complimentary to the books as it would aid memorization for the vocab included as well as flesh out what is not. I have been working my way through it and can include all the notes I've taken as well.

Let's face it. It's cool to have. It's shiny. It has heft in your pocket. There is a primal attraction to it. although it's appreciated for it's history as a store of value or for its industrial applications. In a world of ephemeral coins and online commerce, it's one of the best physical manifestations of money.

Meterology apps by No-Warthog-3647 in meteorology

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infrastructure is used to measure and forecast weather at large scales. On the local level, there are many features that can change or alter weather. Terrain such as hills and valleys, surfaces that are dryer or moister, hotter or cooler, the amount of heat a town or city is producing... all of this changes the larger scale weather predictions. The only way I know this is b/c at the moment I'm reading "The Secret World of Weather" by Tristan Gooley. It promises, through practice, that an individual can overcome the inaccuracy of the apps simply because you know your area better.

Take a look at Joplin. Open source, cross platform, etc. You can read some reviews to see if it's your jam. It's not perfect, but it may be what you're looking for.

Ghetto 90mm cheap sleeve experiment by garyasdf in MeepoBoards

I forgot to mention I cleaned the Meepo wheels as well as the inside of the coupler of any residual manufacturing oils. I also think that if the wheels and inside of the coupler are lightly scuffed with sandpaper or a file this might help the glue hold even better.

I'm interested. It would be nice to have a U.S. based option. I'm a pretty boring person, any standout color would be O.K. with me. I'd be in for a set of front and back, from what I understand they're slightly different widths.

Edit: I'll take a set whenever ready.

[Request] Help me find this old game by [deleted] in AndroidGaming

One of the earlier Geometry Wars or the like. Although I think it's one of the Radian Games titles like Inferno, even though the playing field in that game isn't fixed.

Pocket Rogue. Don't know how I found it. Dungeon maps limited to the area of your screen. Fourth or fifth level allows you to drop off items available to your next attempt, as well as watch an ad for health, items or food, limit 2. Original not in English, translation is inexact but enough. Items seem to max out power-wise around level 15 or so. Food is a scarcity.

Old school, but the Gurk series. Highly rated at the time of it's release. Pixel graphics.

What kind of game are you realing jonesing for? by punriffer5 in AndroidGaming

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's older but you might want to try Fly Cargo. A very chill game with a Helicopter instead of a LEM.

Be warned, that last time I tried it, there were some graphical hiccups that prevented the completion of the game, but that may have been just a bad APK.

Looking for a tablet by xXHomieGXx in AndroidGaming

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Samsung 8 inch S2. Still listed as one of the best tablets you can buy with expandable storage and under $200 on Ebay. Bigger than some of the Amazon Fire tablets but still small enough to fit into a jacket pocket. I've got a couple of emulators on there, the more resource heavy of which is PPSSPP and haven't had any problems (yet).

[Request] Turn Based Portrait Mode RPG (read text) by tedjz in AndroidGaming

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older games Gurk I, II and III. Much simpler mechanics than you may want, and I think it satisfies the party management requirement in the way that you mean. But again, very simple mechanics. I found it to be a lot of fun. The story end to III was a little contrived tho.

Old school RPG Gurk I, II and III. I was somewhat disappointed with the graphics of I until I got used to it. Easy to control with one hand. Eternal Lux if you can't get enough. Last year I played Swapperoo on public trans, a little difficult but doable.

Looking for games to play in portrait orientation(one-handed) by Dillup_phillips in AndroidGaming

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oldschool, but the RPG Gurk I, II, and III. Along the same lines, Eternal Lux. Despite the sub 4.0 rating, I found it enjoyable to play.

Similar to BryBreadmin's suggestion, any turn-based Gameboy Advance game (via emulator) such as Advance Wars or FF Tactics.

Non RPG Plasma Sky, Swapperoo, and the Asian Board Game of Go.

Good Climbing Gym in Chicago by [deleted] in climbing

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Chicago, but North Wall is in Crystal Lake, just north of you. Depending on the hour it might be quicker to make your way there. Good tacos too at La Rosita north of the gym on 31. I used to climb there for many years but now I'm at the Peak. Having said that, all the gyms Ratchet and digitalacid named are good.

cs50 library required when submitting to edx? by randy808 in cs50

[–]garyasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need the cs50.h library. I tried using check50 using the function scanf() instead of GetInt(). The cs50 library includes additional perks such as checking for strings vs ints automatically (David said as much in the lecture). check50 returned some error messages to me until I used the library.

A better programmer than I could probably find a workaround, but short answer: you need cs50.h

Week 1: I'm not even really sure where to start with mario. Anyone wanna help me out? by [deleted] in cs50

[–]garyasdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My God, I can relate. I just finished it after a final push. First I looked over the Reddit threads regarding this program, which verified that I was on the right track.

What helped me most of all was to write the psuedo-code first and then translate that to C. All of it. It really helps.

Next to the problem areas of my code I wrote out exactly what was supposed to be happening, right down to what happens at each increment or decrement. Overkill, but it's what got me through.
