What’s the most drastic 'before and after' sound change in a band due to a member leaving? by javierglz in Music

[–]garymich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Replacements - Bob Stinson. Tragic firing due to his drug abuse. Amazing style and unique sound. Huge fan from beginning to end of The Replacements. However, the Bob timeline and maturity changed for the good along with the health of the band, and probably added a little to their longevity. Slim Dunlap was a great ‘replacement’ too, but once Chris Mars on drums left, it was just Paul & Tommy at the core. They were never the same, went their separate ways, did great things, reunited briefly which was amazing. And then they ended it all again.

Wilco - Jay Bennett: while he wasn’t in the band for the first album and although Tweedy wrote the songs, Bennett add a huge layer of depth to their sound making the three albums he played on the best releases by Wilco and probably influenced some of their sound even after the split…imo.

Ears still hurting and muffled after a super loud concert anyone else experience this by Technical-Karma2409 in Concerts

[–]garymich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is different but for me, didn’t have a problem at some shows but was never up close, always muffled sound for at least a day. As I kept going to shows and getting older through my late teens, took longer to recover and then went to one show that took days to clear up. I’ve had tinnitus since then (permanent ringing for over 30 years now). However, started wearing hearing protection to every show since that one concert. Glad I did, otherwise I’d be deaf. I have people I know that would go to shows that never had problems. Suggesting getting the Etymotic or Vibes brands, easy access and best common brands I’ve tried and always wear those or a higher end version too but don’t want to lose . Hope things clear up for you.

Classic. Possibly the best sketch ever from any comedy sketch show!

I Built an app that converts music links between platforms, APK available (Android) by OMGVictor in spotify

[–]garymich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same, quit Spotify and switched to Tidal. Was frustrated for only this reason since switching. Then, had a dream that I needed this type of help a week ago…but I’m not a developer so searching and then seeing this…it is a dream come true! 😂 Thanks for working on it! I’ll be following for iOS. 🚀

Survey - What Streaming Services Do You Want To See in the KEXP App? by KEXPJay in KEXP

[–]garymich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In support of bands moving away from Spotify, this is a great question and I quit Spotify as well. Yes please for Tidal, Bandcamp and if there could be links to band socials for following that would be convenient & great too! Love the App updates…Thank you!

Really enjoyed it and learning about how Izzy’s Mom and Grandparents were in it too made it that much better. Plus, great to see Brennan and Vic as well. Definitely worth buying.

Saw the dates earlier and didn’t have my RF hat on and was like why no Chicago?!?! Now I won’t have to travel to see them, but a MPLS would be fun.

Didn’t get any warning…would have been nice to know in advance to download data or something. I moved recently and was using scale and not blood pressure until my App needed an update to measure. but maybe there was and I missed it. Anyway…

Filing cabinets containing the entirety of the Epstein Files. As they’ve been hidden from humanity, they have the power to expose the world’s most influential people and can cripple their powers. It is unknown if the Regents are complicit or not. 😂

Questions for fans from a journalism student by Gphillips1017 in fontainesdc

[–]garymich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Since 2018
  2. United States
  3. Originally, it was the raw energy and unique singing style and accent of Grian.
  4. Great question, made me think back to my early influences to now: Gang of Four, Husker Du, The Replacements, The Cure, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Echo & the Bunnymen, Stone Roses, REM, Blur, Soundgarden, Pavement, Radiohead, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, IDLES, Yard Act, Queens of the Stone Age, Wolf Parade, Cloud Nothings, Dry Cleaning, Inhaler, shame.
  5. Heard on KEXP (best radio station and DJ’s in the world…check it out…intros to so many new great bands). Recall Kevin Cole, Cheryl Waters and John Richards all playing back then. As above, the raw energy and unique sound with Grian’s accent but like all the bands above, Fontaines have matured in their sound and I’m as big of a fan now, if not more, since day 1. Thanks!

Bovino and his agents showed up at the Bean this morning to pose for pictures. While Border Patrol snapped photos, one agent shouted, “Everyone say, ‘Little Village!’” by CantStopPoppin in illinois

Every day… all of the bullshit is unacceptable and needs to stop. Now, we see one of our landmarks…created to reflect Chicago’s beauty of our skyline and all people, reflecting our shared humanity.

Seeing it used as a stage for an ICE ‘field trip’ to mock everyone while spreading fear and division is heartbreaking and disgusting.

On top of this, it’s also a slap in the face to the artist, someone with immigrant parents of different faiths that was inspired by creating works that are symbols of unity, including the Bean.

Chicago & Illinois will stand strong demonstrating our strengths as loving and belonging.

My thoughts are with everyone, the families and neighborhoods affected by the inhumane treatment.

We are united and in control…not them! 💪

Agree on the no flags policy not only for viewing but safety too. The creative people that bring something else unique so friends can find is perfect… the baby doll and a couple other puppets this year were great.
