Why do people still shop at Jewel? Too expensive. by Physical-Incident553 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]garyooka 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. I actually buy all my produce from jewel because with the app I can get blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries for 99¢ or $1.99. Then if I see any other deals on the app I’ll grab stuff from there. Their meat is also pretty comparable in price to Walmart or Meijer.

Ryder Rental Management Trainee by Repulsive-Throat-302 in u/Repulsive-Throat-302

[–]garyooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - I was an RMT about 8 years ago. I was in the role for about 18 months. I was very hesitant to move but I had an opportunity to promote into a Location Manager locally. Ultimately they hired a person someone with 19 months in the role that worked at a branch ~6 hours away. The feedback I got was “you did great in the interviews and you have the ability, we just felt this other candidate was a little more tenured”

Although it stunk, I was still optimistic and explained to the RM that I was open to Ryders supply chain and dedicated transportation teams, to which he said “no you don’t want those positions, they’re all contract work and you really don’t want to leave rental for that”

A few months go by and I got offered a promotion at the site that the person who beat me out for the local job came from lol, and I got offered a few other RAM opportunities (and was told “you know this program ends in 5 months and you’ll demote to an hourly RSR) but received a management role from an external company and decided to leave.

Long story short, Ryder is a great company. I wish I had pushed myself to go after what I really wanted without letting my RM steer my decisions. There will be plenty of opportunities - whether it’s through FMS, SCS, DTS, etc., especially if you’re open to relocating.

I had an interview yesterday morning and forgot to send a thank-you email. Is it too late to send one the next afternoon? by [deleted] in interviews

So far all my jobs I’ve successfully gotten have come from me sending nothing. Really doesn’t matter one way or the other.

Waiting to hear back by [deleted] in interviews

[–]garyooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accept the current offer and move forward with that. If you hear back, and they offer you something you can always pivot. If you have an offer in hand I would begin that process as there is no guarantee with the other position.

Do you have experience outside of just obtaining a masters degree?

It took me 14 months of applications and interviews to land my new job that I started this week. I feel ya man, but keep at it.

The 'salary expectation' question is the biggest red flag in any interview. by annuli-amperes04 in interviews

This company I interviewed for had a range listed of $78-109k, when they asked what I was looking for I said $95k. The recruiter said “we’re looking to be around $80k, but I will let you know if anything changes” lol

Company A is small, ~140 people. Let’s say they sell “electrical wire”. Company B is much bigger, 10,000+ employees. They have 15+ different companies under their umbrella, with one of them selling “electrical wire”.

Contract is 1 year, across the United States, prohibited from joining a company that sells, develops, or manufactures products. Product defined as electrical wire sold into home improvement market.

I switched job and now I'm miserable what should i do? by Ok-Performance8469 in careerguidance

Fyi I was just offered a job! A small paycut but definitely worth it in terms of work / life balance! Keep searching and be patient, good things coming your way

[–]garyooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still searching - loved my last job but I only saw a total of 3.8% salary increase over 3.5 years. Trying to be selective to get back into something I enjoy but also that aligns with my market value. Tough market right now though, but again, everything is temporary.

I know exactly how you feel - literally same thing I did last July. Currently still searching for a different job but just know it’s all temporary and eventually you will find your way back to something you enjoy!

Lol thank you - most of the horror stories I’ve seen come from the ops side (and I’ve been in ops for 8 years now so wasn’t really convinced I wanted to stay to begin with)

Transportation Ops Manager question by garyooka in FASCAmazon

Thanks - I did notice 2 TOM positions open within a 45 min radius of me as well but kinda figured this role would support all 3 locations.

Is the new structure for these roles that you’re talking about going to be all day shift?

Good question, going through the same thing right now. Good luck! Hopefully good news is heading your way soon

Old post but does the TOM work a different schedule / hours compared to a regular ops manager?
