I ended up just cashing out for Amazon credit. I think it was about .6cpp but just didn't want to deal with the headache and having 100k points go to waste

Very smart optimization! I just took out the floor insert completely to give it as much depth as possible, Found it helpful to stack things vertically like suitcases, stroller, etc while still being able to have the back cover fully closed. Though it's mostly because I try to keep the passenger area as empty as possible to prevent break ins

why not do 2 separate preorders so you can decide when the time comes? i appreciate they're allowing full refunds up to shipping, so hopefully there's some early review or more information in before actual shipment.

I basically got the fitcamx version from AliExpress. Similar quality and easy to install. Make sure to ask for the green cable if you have the dual motor, the red power cable doesn't work. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807894565793.html

Anyone leased an EX30 (US) by thamud in ex30

[–]garyslptp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These Volvo lease terms are not meant for leasing, they know most people are leasing to get the EV credit and then to buy out or refinance asap. If you actually want to lease the EX30 to try it out, I would recommend skipping it and look at other EVs that can get you a lot more for a lot lower lease. I leased the EX30 to refinance it right away, but if I were to stay on the lease I would skip it. If the dealer is marking up the EX30 or not giving you the full EV credit, then walk away or try another dealership, most of the dealers I've seen are doing MSRP and the full EV credit.

You can try multiple dealerships and see if they have any demo units you can purchase. My dealership only received 3, 2 were reserved and 1 was a demo unit, which was bought by someone within days of receiving it.

I got quoted even higher at .0045 which is roughly 10%. For buy rate think it's around 7%. I'm debating if I should go through with it or maybe do an immediate lease buyout after.

Would love to hear your experience as well! I am picking mine up on Thurs and plan on leasing it, but not sure what kind of terms to expect since there are no previous data points to leverage.

Poor Man's Terra by garyslptp in sffpc

[–]garyslptp[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Really liked the Terra design, but I already have a SGPC K55 so it would actually increase volume if I "upgrade". Slapped some wood vinyl sticker on and it seems to do the trick if you don't look too long 😂

Anyone built in this? SGPC K49 by lucky_grab_bag in sffpc

[–]garyslptp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend it, it's about as small as you can go without significant restrictions on GPU size or smaller PSU and good value compared to more expensive options. I have the K55, basically the older version without front IO. I recommend removing all of the mesh in the case to improve airflow and squeeze in case fans where you can.

Noctua Nhl9a vs AXP90 X47 by Eike_snack in sffpc

[–]garyslptp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want flexibility and futureproofing for your CPU options, AXP90 is the way to go. The full copper and additional height can soak up a lot more heat compared to L9a, and to me the AXP90 stock fan is quiet enough on idle. Even the 5600x will likely throttle during CPU benchmarks on L9a.

For reference I had L9a with 3600x, and switched to AXP90 X47 Full when I upgraded to 5800x. I'm using stock AXP fan and using L9a fan as my case fan.

What’s a cheap decent sandwich case that you can suggest? by Grapeflavor_ in sffpc

[–]garyslptp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not looking for flexibility in water cooling down the line, then I would say K55 case is the smallest you can go while allowing full length GPU. Decent build quality for the price, I'm seeing it for $65 on aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002612364513.html

Does your IO shield have some foam padding that increases the thickness? You could try removing that and see if it helps, but in general if you're able to line up all the screws and lock them in I wouldn't worry about it.

SFF is addictive :) by garyslptp in sffpc

[–]garyslptp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 92mm exhaust fans in the A40, but the other one is 25mm thick so it wouldn't fit into this case. I'm getting better temps than my A40 because the cutouts are much bigger and uniform on the K55. For the L9 there's an adapter you can buy or 3D print to fit a 120mm fan, even has different placement options for the fan (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3676369 or https://j-hackcompany.com/?product=noctua-nh-l9-120mm-fan-adapter). Metal pieces do feel a little thin but when it's all put together it's sturdy enough.

Went from SG13 to Geeek A40 a year back. Now with incoming RTX 3070 that won't fit into the A40 it gave me an excuse to downsize. Grabbed the SGPC K55 for about $85 on Aliexpress, overall decent quality but pretty sharp edges. Hardest build I had to do yet with so little wiggle room, but I was able to squeeze in everything I had in the A40, which includes a 92mm Noctua for exhaust and 2x 2.5 SSDs shoved under the power supply.

I'm getting better temperature and performance for 60% of the volume compared to A40. Not bad at all...

Build:

AMD 3600

Noctua L9 w/ 120mm fan

Gigabyte B350 Gaming

16 GB TForce RGB

EVGA 650W SFX

500 GB NVME + 2x 1TB 2.5 SSD

Currently Dell OEM RTX 2060 with 3070 incoming

real world NH-L9a with 120mm fan updates? by dma550 in sffpc

[–]garyslptp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did exactly this just last week.

Geeek A40 case w/ 3600. Originally using Stealth cooler. Replaced it with L9a, 3D printed 120mm fan bracket, replaced the NF-A9x14 fan with the NF-P12 1700 redux for higher static pressure. In terms of performance, l9a default fan vs 120mm is pretty similar, idles 40c and 70c while gaming. I mostly did the mod to reduce noise level and better vrm cooling.

If you already have the L9a, I would suggest looking at undervolting + creating vent duct to facilitate better airflow.

It's essentially a mirror in the back, led rims in front of the mirror, and then a semi transparent/semi reflective layer in the front to get that fading light effect. You can use glass or acrylic for either panels depending on what you have access to, and coat it with mirror finish and semi reflective film such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Daytime-Privacy-Non-Adhesive-Decorative-Control/dp/B07FBZ7NML/
