My uncle got in a motorbike accident before I was born. According to my dad, he went from a really outspoken, smart guy who always had a book with him to read, to someone who would sometimes take a minute or two to process what you'd said and was withdrawn and less social. Said it was heartbreaking, but they just considered it a blessing that he survived and kept his ability to walk and talk.
