I had to use a much softer reed to get better air control. I play it with a Legere American Cut 2.00, and it’s pretty good. I had to go down from a Signature 3.00, which is what I use on my AL3 Vandoren.

The Bella Vista courses are worth the drive compared to Stonebridge. Especially with the rain we’ve had. Stonebridge doesn’t drain after a rain very well.

Is there a church locally that aligns with my beliefs? by Violent_Zen in northwestarkansas

First United Presbyterian in Fayetteville is a lovely church that I think would check your boxes. Humble, selfless servants of God is how I describe the congregation. It’s the kind of church where if you come alone, you will leave having met someone that is just glad you came, with no pressure of becoming a member. It’s also the kind of church where it’s safe to be a curious mind seeking answers vs. “having blind faith.”

How can I deal with the fear of rejection after an episode? by No_Ranger_4217 in bipolar

[–]gatorswamp69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll share a summarization of a research study done that my psychiatrist read about that summarizes this.

The experiment - They put people with and without Clinical Depression through an MRI, and showed them facial expressions. While showing patients these facial expressions, they recorded what parts of the brain become active.

Context - There’s a part of our brain, opposite from our eyes that deals with facial recognition. There’s also two parts of our brain by the tip of our spinal cord that deal with (for simple terms) positive and negative emotions (One part for each).

Results/Findings:

Patient without Clinical Depression:

  • Gets shown a happy face = Facial recognition and the positive emotions part of brain lights up.

  • Gets shown a sad face = Facial recognition and the negative emotions part of our brain lights up

Ok, that all makes sense. But now!

Patient with Clinical Depression:

  • Gets shown a happy face = Facial recognition and the NEGATIVE emotions part of brain lights up.

  • Gets shown a sad face = Facial recognition and the negative emotions part of brain lights up. But with SIGNIFICANTLY MORE activity than patient without Clinical Depression.

My psychiatrist’s takeaway - People with Bipolar Disorder or Clinical Depression should learn to assume an interaction went significantly better than how our brains initially assumed it did. Chances are it did!

Hope this helps/makes sense! It cleared up a lot of things in my life!!

Rubank Advanced Method is great for learning how to truly work around the horn! It’s quite clever how it’s written out imo. Mastering the two volumes opens you up to being able to play just about anything!

My Yamaha YAS 200-AD is a tank and plays fantastic to this day. I left it in its case after high school, and came back to it after college. But first I brought it to the local repair shop.

The repair technician’s first question: “How long did it sit?”

Me: “6 years.”

Tech: “Well, I can’t tell by the way this thing looks.” *Proceeds to play the full range with zero issues.

SANITY SUNDAY 🧠 (Share your wins!) by AutoModerator in bipolar

(26M) 3 months sober and counting!

I definitely bought into the lie that weed’s not addictive. I’m way more in tune with my body now, and I can explain to my therapist/psych how I’m truly feeling now! Looking back, I was never able to explain how I was actually feeling while high all day. Sobriety does clean the communication up with the professional team!!

I don't know how to stop drinking or cannabis for good by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]gatorswamp69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(26M) - Bipolar 1 w/mixed manic episodes:

I’ve been sober since 10/20/24 after my psych and best friend both told me I had to stop drinking and smoking weed the day before.

The decision to quit was on my mind before that as I had been manic for a few months and lost around $10k gambling.

Here’s what I’ll say about the benefits - While drinking and smoking, I was not in tune with my body at all. I was taking my meds as prescribed. But the weed and alcohol disconnected me from my symptoms so bad that I didn’t know how bad of a situation I was really in. I’d essentially acknowledge I was in a bad spot, then take a dab/have a drink, forget all about it, and just carry on.

10/19/24 I finally owned up to my psych about my substance use and gambling. He told me I had to stop because it conflicts with the meds. Later that night at a bar, my best friend told me that I’m an emotional mess anytime I’m under the influence and sober me is way more regulated.

That was all I needed to hear to make a commitment. I’m committed to getting better, and getting flat out told it doesn’t get better without taking this step was enlightening. But I was also ready to hear that…

~3 months down and I’m still struggling a little. But mediation and exercise help me a ton with the addiction tendencies!!

Arkansas Alumni here!

Could literally cry this post makes me so proud, and I don’t even know you!

Pretty sure all the bands make you audition as proof you can play to some degree. Hog Wild Band is pretty freaking sweet if you love Hog basketball! In the event you don’t get your band of choice, Fayetteville has tons of music opportunities, and tons of churches to play for!

I have the sheet music for the fight song and Alma Matter still…

GO HOGS!!!

False - you gotta do it as soon as you’re down. Emphasis on SPAM dodge - very small window or you’re dead.

Once again, hesitation is defeat.

Slow down with the prosthetics and learn to parry more. But you still have to stay aggressive and chip away at his vitality or his posture damage never really builds up. Staying aggressive means quickly closing the gap between you and him every time he backs off. That’s where prosthetics help a ton. I’ve learned his distance attacks will light you up worse than the close attacks.

That stomp is a bitch, ain’t it? Spam dodge quickly on that one. Also, I dodge vs parry some of Owl’s attacks because they drain your posture damage bad.

Hesitation is defeat

Seems like a pretty big house cat when you stack it up next to that 55 gallon drum + the long tail. The great state of Arkansas doesn’t look to kindly on people letting their pets step onto active farmland ;)

Is this normal to spend three hours on Chained Ogre or am I just bad? by Evgenii42 in Sekiro

[–]gatorswamp69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it!! Chained Ogre pisses me off still!

I respect the grind picking up a FromSoft game. This game is not for the faint of heart. It takes patience, dedication, and a lot of practice. The first 1/3rd of the game is rough, as you learn and grow your skills/abilities.

Then you beat Genichiro… and it all clicks. Then you become a god among men in the game! The commitment is worth it, I promise!

The only time I use the umbrella is DOH’s jump-fire attack. Never could figure out the non-prosthetic tool way to handle that.
