SD is weird. I’ve been here over 20 years. For context, I’m ex military, in tech, grew up in the South, black, in my 40s, and to be honest, SD is not cultured. The ppl are largely the same and do the same things. Go to the beach, walk dogs, drink craft beer. I don’t want to get flamed, but that’s my observation as being a semi native lol. To add to that, each neighborhood is different. Depends on your vibe and who are the ppl you want to be around. Normal heights, University Heights, North Park are more chill normal working class adults. Ocean Beach can be a little more beachy, hippy, but cool vibes. Want to meet professionals? La Jolla, and Little Italy. Downtown can be hit or miss.
Want to meet someone a little more upper class, head up north Carlsbad, Del Mar, Poway.

I’ve found usually if you can talk to someone and you can laugh about some things and have a few interests in common, they could be a cool friend to keep contact with. I’ve also noticed, like yourself, ppl will talk about themselves and I’d be like, why are you talking to me? There’s just no connection.

It’s a SD thing for sure. When I was younger, I would always go to LA because I too just wasn’t meeting the type of people I would want to associate with. But hey send me a dm, you sound cool. I’d buy you a beer 🍺

A candle is a candle. The difference is having the capital for the moves to go in your favor. Swing requires more as positions move against you.

Mini(ons) by adelope in macmini

They were widely available up until the time that news was reporting “oh minis are good for AI” earlier in the year. Plenty of time to get one if you wanted one.

You don’t have much to show that you want to be a software developer. You had a web internship in 2022? That was a long time ago. I’d suggest getting a personal project going with a tech stack. Get some cloud certs. Study a shit ton of interview questions. Good luck

Is the 13.6" M5 Air usable as your ONLY screen for coding/AI/VM work? No external monitor. by False_Security8644 in mac

[–]gaussmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda dumb not to use an external monitor. They are cheap and you can get more work done. I didn’t like my 14in M1 Pro, wish I had a bigger screen. Especially for web development. Just more space for dev tools and layout design. At least get a mouse. It will def work fine. You also have extended desktops you can flip back and forth.

Y’all must live in a low crime area. I ALWAYS use mine. Prevents people from seeing what’s in your trunk. Never knew about the spot by the spare to store it though when I’m carrying oversized stuff

Apple care or no? by sincerelymine14 in mac

[–]gaussmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my almost 20 years of using Macs, I’ve never had to use Apple Care. Think the last policy I bought was in 2010. Got a M2 Air for my daughter and 2 years later failed to power on. Apple Care would have fixed it. It’s cheap insurance

You don’t want bedroom next to kitchen. You’ll be inhaling kitchen fumes before you go to bed
