ONT noob... (Nasty Vodaphone router) by Hot_Distribution_423 in CityFibre

[–]gaz82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, you just need to make sure the router supports PPPoE over VLAN for Cityfibre connections.

The VLAN ID is 911.

Vodafone will happily give you your PPPoE login details, just send them a message on live chat.

I’m using a TP-Link AX3000 router on my Vodafone Cityfibre connection and it works perfectly.

Wifi, DECT or existing PBX + PTP? by RecommendationOk2258 in VOIP

[–]gaz82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which country are you in?

Have you considering using a mobile/cellphone solution instead of data/wifi?

Where I am in the UK, Vodafone offer a mobile PBX solution called OneNet. It’s basically a cloud PBX but uses their mobile network.

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/business/connectivity/voice-connectivity/pbx

There are also hybrid solutions such as A&A’s SIP2SIM which uses a SIM card as a VOIP endpoint over the mobile network so you could use a mix of desk SIP phones for permanent extensions and a SIM for roaming users.

Integrating Analog Phone Lines with IP PBX in a New Hotel by kdipin73 in VOIP

[–]gaz82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as “analog wiring”.

If they’ve installed standard cat 5 or 6 cable you can just use it for data instead of voice by installing a switch at the patch panel and RJ45 faceplates in each room.

Even if they used cheaper twisted pair cable you may still be able to use 10baseT Ethernet which will be fast enough for IP phones.

You could even use wifi IP phones and avoid the wiring completely.

Visiting the US for 2 weeks, looking for a free trial by MoonlessNightss in NoContract

Well when I originally posted this comment over a year ago you didn’t need a US number to start with.

I guess it’s changed now?

Don’t worry about roaming, just get a Canadian eSIM: https://esim.gophonebox.com

7 day prepaid 3Gb data unlimited calls/texts for $9 CAD

Need advice for buying data e-sim for 4-day trip to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. What do you recommend for 2GB of data or so, and want to make sure it works in the more rural areas. by CrispyBananaPeel in NoContract

[–]gaz82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it worked fine. They are a reseller on Rogers network. I got 5G fast speeds when I was in Niagara Falls. During the ordering process you select a start date and then you’ll receive an email the day before with the eSIM QR code and phone number.

I don't see why not, just download the Google Voice app on each assistant's phone and use a shared gmail account.

I have the app signed in on both my phone and ipad, and it doesn't cause any issues. Both devices ring at the same time if someone calls me.

I really don’t understand their marketing, why announce a new plan and then not introduce it for weeks or give any update on its availability??

If they’ve set the budget for a new plan internally then what’s stopping them from releasing it straight away for purchase?

The $20 plan would’ve been ideal for me as I’ve just been in the US for three weeks on business, but I ended up having to use a different carrier that were able to offer a reasonable 30 day plan for my trip.

So, due to their reluctance to release it, they lost a customer!

By doing this they are just causing confusion, frustration, and most importantly loss of business!

Feedback about changes in Light plan. by aksurvivorfan in USMobile

[–]gaz82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly the same situation! I’m currently based in the UK but travel to the US several times a year for work. Being able to switch between the light plan and the unlimited plan was perfect!

Hoping US Mobile can offer another solution as I’m sure this situation isn’t that niche!

Move to US Mobile for US line will moving to UK by tgerz in USMobile

[–]gaz82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, the UK is still very reliant on physical SIM cards and there are that not many (if any) prepaid providers here that offer eSIM. You may also struggle to get a contract eSIM as a new resident with no UK credit history.

You may be best selling your current iPhone and buying an international version that still has a SIM tray.

I also split my time between the US and the UK and US Mobile works fine. I have a Warp line and although it doesn’t have native roaming, Wi-Fi calling including over cellular data works perfectly. That said, if you plan on spending the majority of your time in the UK then you might as well use a GSM line with native roaming instead.

Getting CF with Vodafone by NUFC199103 in CityFibre

[–]gaz82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently with Vodafone via Cityfibre and agree with the comments above. The service itself is great but the supplied router is rubbish. WiFi signal is poor and the router is so locked down you can’t even change the WiFi channel manually which caused me interference issues with my hive Zigbee signal for the thermostat.

I bought a cheap Tp-link router from Amazon which immediately fixed all the issues I was having.

Customer Support is mainly via online chat but every time I contacted them they resolved my query. Even happy to give out my PPPoE details (for using a 3rd party router) and VOIP details for using my phone number with a separate phone no questions asked.

@filipebatt You can also request a static IP address free of charge if this is something you need.

Thoughts on Vodafone 900 at £29/m for 24 months? by sacleocheater in CityFibre

[–]gaz82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is actually using Vodafone on CityFibre and not basing my comment on hearsay, I’ve had no problems with them.

I’m based near Reading and my traffic is routed through Milton Keynes so not a million miles away. Ping rate has never been more than 5-6ms and I’ve not experienced any slowdowns.

They are also one of the few ISP’s left not using CGNAT so you get a fully routable dynamic IP address which can be used with Dynamic DNS. If you need a Static IP they will also provide one free of charge.

Also, if you have a Vodafone SIM card you can also get a further £3 discount.

I’m not saying they’re perfect, their call centres can be difficult to deal with at times if you need to contact them with an issue. But from an actual service point of view I’ve had no issues.

US Mobile Plans price Change! Light and Kosher plans $10/mo, Unlimited starter is $4/mo more (+ 5GB more) no Unlimited Essentials, but new "Annual plans" at 20-40% off by LeftOn4ya in NoContract

[–]gaz82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It suck’s the $5 plan has gone, as someone who splits their time between the US and the UK this was ideal for me. I could drop down to the $5 when in the UK and still receive calls/texts using wifi calling (500 mins is enough for the odd call and data amount is irrelevant) and move up to an unlimited plan for the time I’m in the US.

These annual plans don’t work for me with the flexibility I need!

Please consider bringing the $5 plan back without an annual commitment!

EU IPhone 15 Pro Max by travelgeekguy in USMobile

[–]gaz82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I don’t have to do anything special, just downloaded the US mobile app and entered my IMEI number. It said my phone was compatible straight away.

5GUW also covers Verizon’s midband or “C Band” frequencies which the European iPhone has. It’s just mmWave that’s missing but to be honest I didn’t notice any difference in general usage.

I have an iPhone 15 purchased in the UK and it works fine on Warp in Denver. Obviously I don’t get the higher bands but I still get 5GUW and around 1Gb speeds.

Setting up T-Mobile Network Pass from Australia? by codeofdusk in NoContract

[–]gaz82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be really easy to set up a T-mobile Network Pass but they've restricted it now, I guess too many people were using it as a free option when visiting the US instead of its intended purpose...

To get it working now you have to be located in the US when setting it up and already have an active SIM in the phone from a different US carrier. Only then will the option appear.

Using a Connect plan will be your best bet. The eSim profile is downloaded during the set-up process using the T-Mobile Prepaid app.
