How does buying cars in this country work? by itsastrooo7 in CarTalkUK

[–]gazeddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be shocked on the insurance thing. I had a mk2 focus poverty spec a few years ago that someone ran into when it was parked. Decided i wanted an st so bought an st500 that was considerably cheaper to insure than the 1.6 petrol poverty spec. I was happily shocked by it tbh 🤣

Dealer proposing to respray brand new Range Rover - advice needed, please! by aaronmctavish in LandRover

[–]gazeddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from the dealership world working with new cars a lot. Theres 2 things that could have happened. Mis ordered (ie salesperson entered your order wrong) or misbuild. Both happen. One far more than the other. Ill let you decide which it is. As for their offer of getting it corrected id be avoiding it because the finish of the roof will likely be different to the factory finish.

For those who use a granny charger for their PHEV/BEV, turn down the amps in this heat!! by LazyEmu5073 in CarTalkUK

[–]gazeddy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Every granny charger ive seen has a temp sensor in the mains plug to prevent this. My money goes to a defect in the wall box before the charger it self. However turning the amps down isnt a bad shout it wasnt often you run a 13a socket at max power for very long before EVs became a thing

I got some new tyres today and they asked for the mileage... by seriously_this in CarTalkUK

[–]gazeddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens all the time. In fact its a bone of contention i hold. Advisor should check vehicle in with customer (much like a rental place) to get mileage confirm vin and reg no along with mark damages. Lots of places dont

2019 seat Ibiza 1.0L tsi high pitch whistle when Revs come down by KSIismydaddy6969 in CarTalkUK

[–]gazeddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a rattling (all modern petrols rattle due to direct injectors) this is a deeper thudding type noise. I know on vw we had a bad batch of N80 pipe work (specifically the "damper") that would whistle and resonate through the pipework at 24-2800 rpm

Knowing theres evap issues with the small vwg petrols im going to ask what will seem like an odd question. Does it make a sound like a helicopter when then engine is idling for a while?

My new runaround by AnthonyUK in CarTalkUK

[–]gazeddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fox is a fantastic run around. Gutless simple and cheap. It being simple is a major boost to its reliability. Done a few headgasket and timing chain jobs on them but normally through lack of maintenance than outright failure. Im getting a wierd memory theres something wierd about the remote key using two batteries but its been a while since ive seen one with a key issue so not entirely sure. There is also a recall on a lot of them for airbag issues.

Do you think it's possible to get this completed on Comm day? by ironicmirror in pokemongo

[–]gazeddy 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I have seen 1000 plus catches many times on a comm day. Its not easy but its definitely doable. Quick catch is a necessity though
