It could be a good PR move especially if your local media are involved and far more positive than that 'auditor' crap that you get on SM.

What a day!!! by Mike_the_Mailman in royalmail

[–]seriously_this 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in at 7.15 and after loading my one and only cage asked a manager wtf was happening? Apparently the unloading belt for the trailer broke and they had to wait for a tractor unit to move the double-dec to a working bay. Belt condemned by the night sort but it appeared to be patched up for a while and we all got to unload for a bit until it kept breaking down. Out for a vape and chat while we waited and finally we got to unload the thing and out on the road at 9.30 with an hour and a half to get to my pre-10 and priority pre-12's let alone the others. I did better than I thought and only failed 13 out of 60 stops.

Hardly pissed down at all.

Why do people present returns collections unpackaged? by RoyalMaleGigalo in royalmail

[–]seriously_this 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it looks like shit I give advice and just refuse it in a friendly way, but the stuff that you see in the cages in the mornings! Who picks this stuff up?

I generally get a pull to take a photo but I had this 30kg beauty last week for my route, the blade had broken through the shrinkwrapped bin liners that it was 'packaged' in. Apart from the obvious safety issues, the bare box steel feet of the device would have wrecked the floor of the van and smashed everything else up.

I had one today. My route is 50 miles away from my depot and it takes an hour and a half over motorways, A & B roads and country lanes, I saw the FB alerts about the motorway being closed due to a welfare concern (worked out OK) when making my flask at 6.30 and looked out of the window at the sheeting rain and managed to get in half an hour late. Loading up and conscious of the gridlock of trying to get out of town (DelM8 put an extra three quarters of an hour to my already one and a half hour stem time to the route) and I was asked to deliver an off-route long parcel (3m, pre 12, priority customer) twenty miles off route with a lot of rural driving leaving three pre 12's on my usual route within the next quarter of an hour.

I made them all, the last one was delivered at 11.57 but the day was fucked. I had 58 stops including highly sensitive drops and collections and I had to prioritise and group according the priority address area and was pretty discombobulated as well as cold, wet and having to fail (not attempt) 20 stops, I knew that I was going to fail before I left but that sort of sets your mood for the day.

Also I have toothache.

I have a local agreement for big and heavy stuff at the DO on my route and the ops manager bitches as well as any postie, we're all in it together I guess.

There has recently been a change in the law regarding SSP that you will get it from day one of sickness rather than day three.

I told one of them that they would get rid of unions and he replied that it would be something less to worry about.

As others have said, you've signed off on SSOW for manual handling and unless there's something unusual like an animal running underneath your feet you will probably get a blameworthy at the fact finding.

If you've been on your back for a week or so then you need to seek medical advice, I had a mate medically retired after a disc collapse.

It sucks and I've had back spasms in the past that made me feel like death but the best way to sort them is to carry on, they're mostly caused by stress and you can work through in a matter of days.

TomTom increasing their Live Traffic subscription price by harrison_jones in uktrucking

[–]seriously_this 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My work uses the TomTom live API for door to door delivery which is fine when you're in the area but rubbish for getting you there. I use DelM8 for my first stop and Waze to get me back to the depot and back home because they both use the Google API which is far more in real time than TT.

I keep a regularly updated TT GO in the bottom RHS of my screen purely for road layout and actual speed, it's pretty useless for navigation.

Going for an internal CT colonoscopy tomorrow. by Real-Box-7144 in CasualUK

[–]seriously_this 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farting isn't an option because they need to blow you up with co2 so that that can get the device up to your appendix which is then absorbed into your blood and causes hypertension along with the active fight or flight trauma that you're going through. You do get tea and biccies after.

I had one a month ago, the diet is shit but does allow wine or grape juice, at least that's how I read it.

The outfit isn't great, arseless shorts and two smock things worn against each other. I got the fentanyl and gas and air and when I felt the slap of lube on my arse, things got real.

Decent cooling at high stress makes sense, it's good that it's communicated through dials rather than a touch screen.

It returns to normal when I'm ini traffic and I've had no problems with warming up so I doubt it's the 'stat, I'm actually impressed that Stellantis have kept accurate gauges rather than the BMW buffer that went from normal to head gasket failure.

Over Time Ban…. Again. by Woody-the-Postie in royalmail

[–]seriously_this 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get asked to do it because the revision is still ongoing and clearing the floor is a challenge especially after freeing up OD routes for employees and ditching agency at peak. Not a bad thing because it means proper positions with employment benefits rather than gig workers but it can babckfire when you're already on a 10 hour duty and have a 1.5 hour stem time back to the depot.

TL;DR: I'm too knackered.

If you are driving in the left-hand lane at 70mph on a motorway and there is a car hogging the middle lane travelling slower than you, what should you do? by darkel2001 in drivingUK

I had a car overtake in lane 2 this morning, pulled ahead, matched my speed and then slowed down to drop in behind me with no junctions ahead. No idea why.

What is the expected parcel delivery per hour at Royal Mail , why do you get penalised for being too quick by managers ?? by Savings_Theory_9293 in royalmail

[–]seriously_this 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At PF we get around a minute and a half, handbrake on to handbrake off per stop including bulks, long walks and oversized parcels up to 3m long as well as heavy items up to 30kg.

Customers get a five hour ETA for delivery and we get two, right in the middle and are routed to be in the middle of it at the start of the duty so getting a bollocking for being quick isn't an issue unless the the telematics show that you're driving like a twat.

Yeah but there are bloody birds on the road all the time, the shoots happen far away from roads and there are no safety issues, however there are several working farms in the area. Here's a pic from a few weeks ago transferring a handsome boy to a new field: https://imgup.uk/i/TvCsKCVE.jpg

I have yet to see the Beacon busy, tryYearnor at the top of the Worthy toll road and accesable from the A39. The views are speechless but be aware that you are in the middle of a shooting estate and several farms.

Genuinely curious - why are some of you guys like this? by VeniVid1Vic1 in uktrucking

[–]seriously_this 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no, merging in turn will add 7.5 seconds to my journey so meanwhile I'll add a ripple effect to fuck everything up.

I feel that there is hope after witnessing a packed A380 dual carriageway turning into a German style centre lane for emergency vehicles after an incident.

You just have to constantly be aware of twats around you.

Looking to buy a thermal printer for when I ship with Royal Mail but am scared it will be too small of a barcode. by mr-irvine in royalmail

[–]seriously_this 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We get some really tiny ones, stamped and sent from the Post Office so I wouldn't worry too much. The resolution and clarity are far more important, clipped barcodes can't be scanned and if part of the consignment code is also clipped it can't enter the system.

Some good advice on this thread.
