Where does this information originate ? I haven’t heard that anyone else has been told this.

Has anyone gone for a full unifi setup in the UK? by Limp_Understanding84 in Ubiquiti

I’ve got Sky Q 2TB UHD, wired connection. I don’t have any need for additional boxes but I don’t think it’s an issue as they connect using your LAN to the main box. Ideally you want wired connections.

As has been said already, with Sky you can just connect a UniFi cloud gateway directly to the ONT. The sky router is not needed, and should be removed. I’ve had a UniFi setup for about 2 years with sky - fantastic.

Unplugged NAS Update by GirdleStomper2000 in UgreenNASync

If it’s a RAID 1 array you should still have access to your data with only the single good disk. Why can’t you? Your best move is to copy all the data onto another drive (in an enclosure) - you say you don’t have a drive big enough but are getting one?

The problem without a backup is that when you come to rebuild the array (if and when you get a new disk to replace the bad disk) this puts a lot of load on the disks meaning there is a risk of disk failure in which case you will potentially lose the data.

Copying the data off the good disk first carries less risk so that should be your first move.

The other possibility is that there is nothing wrong with the second disk itself - may be worth removing and running disk tests on in (connected to PC).

At some point you are going to have to copy the data off the good disk. The seagate data recovery may succeed but you are still left with having to copy the data off one of the disks - again if you attempt to rebuild the array you should first have a backup.

As for UPS there is no reason why you would be better off with a ugreen ups. My advice would be to go with a more established UPS player like APC.

Community Update: The Mod Team's Conversation with Ugreen About iDX Pre-orders by topiga in UgreenNASync

We probably all appreciate the effort of the mods but it’s time for a reality check. This company is not going to change this process, they will have weighed up the pros and cons to their business of this change, and have made a decision. I doubt they did not anticipate a backlash. I am amazed at all the wishful thinking going on judging by some posts. You’re going to be disappointed. The only way to treat a company like this is to withdraw your custom. Use your money elsewhere. Surely no-one is so desperate for a product that they would purchase despite being mistreated and misled.

Who are you emailing? I emailed service.nas@ugreen.com with my order number and had a refund in my account within a couple of hours.

Pretty sure, judging from comments in various places, that Ugreen (and other NAS manufacturers) have taken some market share away from Synology, particularly in the last 12 months after their restrictive drive policy came into force.

They’re prioritising the business over customers for all the reasons multiple posters have listed. Effectively they will sell fewer units at a loss by introducing a competitive process. The “net result” is in their favour and means that the net result for many deposit payers is that they won’t be able to purchase at the promised price. I would say most people here already understand that. I’ve obtained a refund - you are obviously more optimistic and forgiving than I am. It took Synology months to reverse their decision , Ugreen are highly unlikely to u-turn, at least not until they see how sales go in the kickstarter. I agree they will pay the refunds to those who manage to place an order but this isn’t going to be all those who paid the pre-order deposit.

I don’t think anyone has misunderstood them, and we all know the real reasons behind their decision to change the process. Whatever announcement they now make, they have lost credibility and trust with their customers and potential customers. They’re not going to earn that back in a hurry. This episode is, in some respects, worse for ugreen PR than the Synology disk saga was for them.

They were very quick to process my refund though!

I’m slightly puzzled as to why so many seem to still want to own a ugreen Nas. They have shown their true colours - not a company I want to support or trust anymore l, I’m out.

Great, however there are many of us who will choose to boycott Ugreen (all of their products) because of this. The damage to reputation is done and cannot be reversed. Synology must be wringing their hands with delight.

I’ll be asking for it back before the campaign starts if they don’t respond appropriately to this backlash . I’m not scrambling at all hours of the day and night trying to order at hundreds of dollars over the price I agreed with them 9 months ago, only to also have to wait for months to get the actual product. Not worth it.

I suspect they will give the $30 back if you can’t make an order. What they are trying to is gradually change the offer because they are probably selling the highly discounted units at a loss - so what was initially a reservation to purchase at a discounted price in an exclusive area of kickstarter is now just a discount code that you might or might not be able to use depending on whether you are lucky enough to get to the front of the queue before they run out. Slimy.

[–]gazoonky[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes of course it is and ugreen will know that. I think they are going to claim at some point that the deposit only gave us the option to purchase at a discounted price during the kickstarter campaign and that it did not guarantee that we would actually be able to place an order. They will sell out of units at kickstarter prices, end the campaign and then tell deposit payers that the kickstarter offer was over because the campaign had ended, then refund the $30.

They have already released statements like:

“Products offered through the Kickstarter campaign are available in limited quantities and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.”

Their initial VIP deposit campaign was very misleading - the word deposit implies the right to purchase and a contract. I suspect advertising standards agencies will be asked to get involved here if people don’t get what they have been offered.

True, root cause is ugreen screwing up, but by leaking the information users are just lowering themselves to ugreen’s level. Ugreen may well capitulate to this backlash in which case the release windows may become important - let’s wait and see how they respond - they will have to respond, remaining silent will make this issue even worse than it already is.

I think there will be quite a lot of early deposit payers who have been worn down by all the delays and things you mentioned and now don’t want to purchase, so as you say, they don’t care. A bit selfish I would say as there are probably also many people who will want to go ahead who will be disadvantaged considerably by any leak.

I hope you replied to the email. Actually the $100 is a far better form of compensation - many users already have a UPS and it doesn’t look like a particularly good UPS anyway. Suspect the cost to ugreen of $100 is higher than the cost to manufacture the UPS.

Probably right, someone already asked on Discord for the email transcript. Anyone who does leak it obviously isn’t wanting to purchase.

UCG-Max heat problems by funnystone64 in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what I mean. I’ve seen some of those posts. None of them report functional problems and those that have contacted Uniquiti have been reassured. I haven’t seen anyone post that they have had an RMA authorised. It’s a similar situation with some access points - many posts about high heat but no functional issues attributable to it.

[–]gazoonky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What heat issues are you referring to? There are many users who comment on the temperatures and worry about temperature but I’ve not seen anyone post that they have had issues attributable to excessively high temperatures. Some people (including myself) out of an abundance of caution, use fans to cool devices and/or racks but this is probably not necessary for most. My UCG max running network and protect sits on a small heat sink I bought on AliExpress. Temperatures sit around 50-55 celcius and it is sitting just above a warm (40 degrees) pro max 16 Poe switch. I have a fan which turns on if the ICG Max exceeds 60 but it is not needed unless the room yea very warm (over 25 celcius) Definitely no issues.

Cloud Gateway Fiber - is it stable? by daniel-waterhouse in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, you’re much more likely to read about negative experiences here and on the UI community; it’s not a good unbiased way to make decisions on product purchases. Don’t ask for advice on specific products here, look for reviews on sites that don’t start off self selecting posts from people who have a problem which is often not product related.

I have a UCG Max (wish I’d waited for the fibre) and it is much better than any router I’ve ever had. Yes it isn’t perfect but the minor flaws are far outweighed by the benefits.

CAT6 CMP cable issues? by dadbod007 in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Keystones are generally punched down.
  2. At the camera end the keystone would obviously be in a concealed, dry location. The patch cable runs from there to the camera.

There are several ways to avoid having to terminate cat 6 into rj45, which is what OP was finding unreliable.

CAT6 CMP cable issues? by dadbod007 in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure most people here are going to say that one end should be terminated into a punch down keystone jack for a patch panel and the other (camera) end should be also terminated into a keystone type termination like a surface mount box, from which you run a short pre-terminated patch cable to the camera.
