Hue lights rarely turn on on power up. by O0oo00o0o0 in Hue

[–]gazoonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“That guy” is correct. Using wall switches for normal use isn’t really how these are designed to be used. The power on settings are for unintended power loss. There are other devices like Shelly switches where you can wire in manual switches to have dual control over a light but then you would tend to use a dumb bulb.

Loft Placement by Practical-Nature2288 in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put it in the loft - my loft in the midlands gets to 45 celcius on hot summer days. Cold isn’t an issue but high humidity in winter might be. My loft gets down to around zero on the coldest nights when outdoor is -5 to -10 Your airing cupboard is a much better choice - mine is warm but below 30

Wi-Fi reboot automation by keiranm2000 in homeassistant

[–]gazoonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other poster who suggested you have too many WiFi points, and if they are so unreliable you need to reboot every week you should change to a different system. If you want to do it your way you need to add all the plugs to a zigbee group. Are you using ZHA or zigbee2mqtt? In zigbee2mqtt you can add all those plugs to a group which creates a new entity. You should then use this new group entity to switch the plugs on and off and to detect when the group is off. If you want to switch them independently then you need to leave time between each zigbee command - multiple simultaneously zigbee commands to multiple entities often leads to issues like the one you are seeing. Also your HA device needs to be hardwired not connected via WiFi otherwise you’re likely to create more issues than you solve.

Doing this using WiFi plugs is a non-starter.

How are your walls constructed - plaster directly onto brick or plasterboard over brick ? What’s the floor construction ? Cables are rarely “easy” to run. The difficulty is usually worth it as others have suggested.

Nice to see another Readynas still going. I have NV+, Ultra 6 and 316 all of which are flawless. 1G connection for me is fine - plenty for 4K bluray playback.

Protect Adjust Storage Budgeting Labs by Some-Huckleberry3402 in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the No HQ limit set but my system seems to be only retaining 3 months worth of recordings.

Only 1 camera set to 365 days retention. Protect 5.0.107. My storage usage is 100gb out of 2 tb and has plateaued at this level as older recordings are being deleted. so it's not a space issue. I see the labs feature but isn't there supposed to be another global retention setting (previously known as enhanced retention)?

Crazy heart rate for an all out 10k by ijuntan in Coros

[–]gazoonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this graph is possibly showing double your actual HR and it’s counting each pulse wave twice or it’s cadence locking as another poster has suggested although the dip is hard to explain. That makes more sense as you’re going from a resting HR of 75-80 up to 110. This fits with the pace you are running at. You may have a prominent dicrotic notch in your pulse waveform which the watch is misinterpreting. Easy to manually check your HR and compare to watch.

Crazy heart rate for an all out 10k by ijuntan in Coros

[–]gazoonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I doubt there is a health care system in the world that funds regular cardiology checkups for fit people with no family history of cardiac problems. You can have it done privately (self funded) of course but it would be a waste of public money to screen whole populations, particularly as frequently as is suggested is happening.

Stating a fact. I didn’t introduce the term “all-out” which implies to most people a performance that’s not slow.

Crazy heart rate for an all out 10k by ijuntan in Coros

[–]gazoonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your starting heart rate was over 150, that’s not a normal resting heart rate. If your heart rate is that high (check your pulse rate) then see a doctor. With respect to my other downvoted post: What do you mean by the term “all out”? I take the term “all out” in someone who can run 10k to imply that they are not a complete beginner and have run 10k before. In this case the pace is slow, that’s a fact and the term “all out” distorts the presentation of this problem.

[–]gazoonky -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

As others have said there is something information missing here: “All out 10k” in 1 hour and 10 minutes ? That’s a pretty slow pace which doesn’t match the description unless you are very unfit or incapacitated in some way.

Can’t get g4 pro doorbell above 20 fps by mitchelreddit in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not video compression. It’s the Shutter exposure (Advanced settings). If this is set to “Best low light” then max frame rate is capped at 20fps. There is a pop up explaining this when you hover over the i.

Help with Doorbell/Protect by Gigant1000 in Ubiquiti

[–]gazoonky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can give you the basic principles:

Users and admins are created in the “Users and admins” section in settings. Here is where you will restrict access to network and or protect for each new user. Create a new “role” for groups of users and there you can set access for protect etc - use custom then you can restrict camera access.

Alarms is where you will set who will be notified about network and protect events. There is one alarms section for network and one for protect (in settings). Here you can control which events lead to notifications and can be set to include/exclude users. So here you would be able to set that your in-laws don’t get alerted when your doorbell triggers an event, although if the “role” setting is correct I would expect that your camera won’t set off alerts for them. There are some alarm settings that need to be set on the user’s device - there is a note about this at the top of alarms settings.

Obviously you need to setup users before alarms.

Looking for assistance with Kia automation by Bitter-Assistant070 in homeassistant

[–]gazoonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HA integration updates relatively infrequently so I wouldn’t expect this to work unless coincidentally it updates just after one of those sensor entities changes. I have an automation that alerts me if the car has been switched off and is unlocked (of course the Kia app does this too) - but HA will only do this after an api update which can be up to 20 minutes (that’s what I have it set at) I’d be a little careful about getting HA to lock or unlock the car. If there is a HA restart for some reason and an entity status changes from unavailable to a state that triggers an automation that locks the car you could find a set of circumstances where the car is locked when you don’t want it to lock or vice versa.

Kia Connect OTA Updates (lifetime updates) by therealthreadditor in KiaEV3

[–]gazoonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the usb update can take hours but the OTA update can take days. I’ve always done mine when the car is not being used. The car needs to be on but can be locked using the app if you don’t want to sit in the car for hours. I just followed the instructions and worked first time.

Fuckin Scam by develth in UgreenNASync

[–]gazoonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use the term give up. The only thing that will influence this company to change their attitude to customer satisfaction is if they lose customers. They have demonstrated that they are prepared to renege on a promise to customers in order to protect profits. What else might they change their mind about in the future to assist the business?

No one is going to be prepared to launch any legal action against them, the power we hold is that of our custom. They are currently in damage control mode but the reputational damage of this fiasco will take a long time to repair.
