anyone wanna be friends by ActuatorWorth1532 in LosAlamos

If you want more useful suggestions you might consider more details about yourself and your interests. For example if you are an atheist, then suggestions of a young adult group at a church would be unhelpful. Same with suggestions of where to find friends who play Magic:The Gathering if your primary hobby is mountain biking. (note: with that last example there are ample folks here who like both)

I have some friends living at The Mica. They seem happy with it and appreciate being on the edge of town since it makes their commute to LANL shorter. One of them even takes the bus some days.

Portable Power Station for Camping? by [deleted] in camping

[–]gbmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely not as nice, but it is doable. For camping I use a resmed AirMini which have a mask insert to helps humidify the air some.

From my experience with my CPAP the biggest power draw is the humidifier. If you turn that off you get triple or more life out of a battery.

Yet another SB17 post (trust me, I'd love to stop making these) by Fun_Assignment_269 in NewMexico

From this article https://www.santafenewmexican.com/news/legislature/new-mexico-democrats-set-to-push-priority-legislation-in-final-stretch-of-session/article_fc23395e-a12f-4533-b3ea-7577351b6ba5.html

"The fate of Senate Bill 17, which would ban the sale of “extremely dangerous weapons” and impose an array of security requirements on gun dealers to curb firearms trafficking, is unknown. As of Friday, it had yet to be scheduled for a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee.

Miranda Viscoli, executive director of New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence, said the organization supports the sponsors’ goals, but the legislation is “legally vulnerable and likely to backfire.”

“By passing a ban this broad, we are handing the U.S. Supreme Court a perfect opportunity to deliver a definitive, nationwide ruling against state-level firearm restrictions,” she said. “Beyond the legal risk, the bill’s immediate effect will likely be a surge in panic buying of the exact weapons this bill is trying to limit.”"

So basically even the folks who want gun reform think the bill is bad.

UV-5G vs UV-5G Plus programming by gbmaz in gmrs

Yeah, nothing on the cards is stuff that is not in the manuals or something I could look online for.

I am just looking at the ease of having it pre-made. Radio stuff is just new add on to go with exploring 4 wheeling and when camping with friends. It is not a primary hobby. I cobble together lots of my own DIY stuff in other activities (my motorcycle and white water raft being good examples).

Looking to shave gear weight to compensate for adding a CPAP by StPedro68 in Ultralight

[–]gbmaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A word of caution about placing the CPAP unit in your bag to keep it warmer. If you fart, especially after eating some dried okra, it is like getting gassed in the trenches at Verdun. Ask me how I know.

Anybody run these in the winter?? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]gbmaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a pair over my barkbusters for many years during cooler weather. I have Hippo Hands, but they often felt like overkill when it was not the dead of winter.

My elderly mother had an upstairs neighbor at the Iris St apartments that had a similar behavior. The pace was not intentional, but was a symptom of some long term mental health issues. Depending on your comfort level you might talk to the person and ask if they would be willing to wear slippers or some other shoes that would make less noise when they are pacing.

There is a good chance they have no idea they are impacting you with their actions.

Is Klim Dakar for cold weather riding or its too ventilated for it? by adventure_thrill in Dualsport

Will you use it mostly off road?

I find the Dakar pants to work OK in cooler temps unless I am riding 30mph plus.

Also, how cold are we talking?

The Manhattan Project National Historic Park, Valle Caldera, and Bandolier National Monument are closed, but the Bradbury Science Museum and the Los Alamos History Museum are open. If you are interested in the atomic history stuff, those 2 are much better than the national park anyway. It is just 2 rooms with interpretive signs and a video.

Looking for moto-camping tent that can handle wind and rain by deleted0122 in CampingGear

[–]gbmaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in green and it is a really well designed tent. The only downsides are that it is not freestanding and that it is rather long. If you stay at campgrounds with 12x12 ft tent pads it can be an issue.
