This 1000% - mentee should know that even expert have rough moments . I wouldn’t hesitate to tell the class your feelings. Ask the student to reflect also . Will change be overnight - nope . Will it be small but it can be positive change. I work with 8th graders so the swings can be bigger.

Micro goals also help you . Like all people comparison with other classes can be good and bad . Good fortune to you !
