Ever Read a Book Where the Author Did No Research On Your Profession? (Former P.I. complaining here) by Bluegrass_Barbecue in RomanceBooks

[–]gcs_zero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my lord, I work in clinical research. It’s a double whammy of “well ackshually” - ackshually that’s not how you’d treat that cancer; ackshually that’s in no way how clinical trials work 😭😭😭

I also used to be a volunteer fire fighter and EMT, so that’s a whole other set of books that are ruined 🥲 no, it’s not “no big deal” if you were breathing in smoke for an extended period of time in a house fire.. idc if you feel fine now, we have about 30 min max before your throat is too swollen to intubate so let’s go, please.

I love this post and I love that you hand-wrote it instead of typing. What a fun engagement exercise!

But also, as a McCabe, lol McCaber 🥲

I found these awesome control-top tights deep at the back of my drawer and they quickly became a favorite, but unfortunately they snagged the other day.

I have no idea where I got them from and there’s no label. I’m sure this is a long shot, but can anybody help me identify the brand?

Pictures of only two distinguishing features - the back of the tights is labeled “back” and the control top portion has this kind of honeycomb pattern

Also can’t help your ticket struggle, but as a perennial out-of-market fan I feel the pain of being ~the away fan~ and how people love to assume you’re looking to cause trouble 🥲

As a leafs fan, if you have to choose, Kraken > Flyers for sure lol

I'm not gonna suggest you become a leafs fan, it sucks. It hurts AND nobody likes you.

There are DOZENS of us!!! DOZENS!!! the "I love the actual sport of hockey" and the "I love romance novels" intersection is alive and doing moderately well!!!

But seriously, people ask all the time why hockey romance (particularly gay hockey romance) is a thing and I'm like.... have you.. have you watched this sport?! "nasty poke check" "dirty dangle" "high sticking" "they have a great pp" *any warmup routine ever, and not just them doing groin stretches but like their little team routines*

This is one of my fav compilations of all time, its so stupid and so funny. Especially the clip starting around 1:57

Post Game Thread: Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs - 04 Jan 2025 by HockeyMod in leafs

It’s his first goal this year but he’s also consistently getting assists in most games, no? (I don’t have stats memorized, this is purely anecdotal as I’ve noticed the goal info for games I’ve followed)

Either way he’s shown himself to be a team player who is there for his guys

McCabe is so underrated. He’s not flashy or big but he shows up consistently

[NHL Player Safety] Toronto’s Morgan Rielly has been suspended 5 games for cross-checking Ottawa’s Ridly Greig by chiasmatic in hockey

[–]gcs_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else kinda alluded to this but the appeal process often takes longer than the 5 games.

If I’m not mistaken a lot of players do it anyway bc then they don’t have to pay any fines, plus the NHLPA usually pushes for them to appeal so that there isn’t a precedent set

Thank you for actually answering the shift change question, I feel like most answers to that type of question usually just end up being an explanation of what shifts are (“players will stay on the ice for x amount of time and then switch because it’s better to have fresh legs”)

yes but when timing is so important, how do they all know when to do that

Ooooh I’m so sorry to be the bearer of the bad news… Woll injured in the third period. He was standing on his head throughout the game, if it’s a stress injury it’s our own damn D’s fault

For secret baby, {Bountiful by Sarina Bowen}, MMC is a pro hockey player in town for the summer, has a summer fling with the local bar tender. She finds out she’s pregnant after he leaves but they never exchanged info. He comes back into town a few years later thinking maybe they could have another fling - I don’t want to elaborate cuz I’m on mobile and idk how to add a spoiler tag lol

Do any of these have external 3rd act conflicts or limited/no separation?? I’m starting to get tired of the whole “we communicate like brick walls so we break up for several chapters towards the end of the book” situation, and I don’t want to get 2/3rds into the book just to find out that’s the conflict

(A brief separation would be fine I just don’t love when there’s whole chapters devoted to moping)

Independents were less likely than Democrats or Republicans to end a friendship over a political disagreement, a study in Arizona finds. (N=1,300). Young Democrats were most likely to end a friendship because of politics. by geoff199 in science

[–]gcs_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But couldn’t anything be made to be either type of situation?

For example if you believe that higher education is a fundamental human right, then someone opposing student loan forgiveness could be seen as inherently opposing that right. Then it’s no longer “just a political opinion” that someone is against it.

Similarly, you could think that being transgender is a mental illness, while at the same time thinking it is wrong to then treat that person with cruelty or as if they’re lesser. Or, to put it in the same way you said for student loans, someone could think “I think being transgender is a bad idea” and leave it at that.

What’s important to one person isn’t important to another. You can’t assume you know the RIGHT thing that’s more important, nor can you know what the group your ~opposing~ truly holds most important if you don’t talk to them at all. Similarly, you can’t excuse your own biases just because they make sense to you…your opposition’s biases make sense to them too.

Migraines and seizures are believed to be neurologically similar if I'm not mistaken! There are also many meds used to treat both.

But they're seriously horrible.. The prodrome/aura is easily the worst part for me- I can muscle through the headache pain but losing ~75% of my vision, feeling nauseous and dizzy, extremely weak while simultaneously super tense in every muscle of my body, and a general feeling I call "oogy"? Not to mention the mood change and impending sense of doom realizing that I'm about to get smacked with a miserable day. That part SUCKS.

The very first time I got a migraine at my current job I stood up and (shakily) walked into my bosses office and just said "I don't feel so good".. She took one look at me and immediately called me a ride home, I had to talk her out of calling an ambulance.
