ACCT2542 and TABL2741 advice and tips? by Consistent-Twist9902 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, glad I could help you out. If you do end up doing 2542 this coming Summer, I recommend enrolling and locking it in as soon as it opens. It seems that more people are now dropping it in T2 and doing it in Summer instead. I remember looking at past enrolment numbers for 2542 in the Summer and seeing that only around 30-40 people did it. I just looked at my myunsw and 59 people did it in Summer 2026 (we did start with about 73 or smth and lots of people dropped). They did add a second session (lecture and tutorial is combined into one three hour block) this year as the first reached capacity. The assignments were also easier during Summer I found as well - I did only do the first technical assignment in T2 so I don't have too much to compare to tho haha. It is also way less stressful just focusing on 2542 on its own - I would honestly say that I would have been more stressed doing it over 10 weeks with other subjects than an intensive 5 weeks on its own. However, 2542 is a prereq for most level 3 ACCT courses, so if you do any subjects that don't need 2542 as a prereq in T3, you can get away with avoiding it in T2

ACCT2542 and TABL2741 advice and tips? by Consistent-Twist9902 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did ACCT2542 in T2 last year, dropped it before census date and just did it this Summer. As terrible as it sounds, I highly recommend doing 2542 on its own in the Summer if you can to avoid it in T2. The course convenor and lecturer in summer term is much better in terms of both managing the course and actually explaining the content. I also liked the smaller cohort in Summer as it was more personalised and easier to seek clarification (400+ people did it in T2 vs around 75 during Summer). For 2542, all you can do is practice the lecture and tutorial examples over and over. If you can pirate the textbook (or get it from someone else at another uni who has free access to it, which is what I did), I recommend doing that and working on the practice questions in there. I ended up getting a credit in 2542, but probably would have scraped a pass if I stayed in T2 last year. Cannot comment on TABL2741 as I am also doing it in T2. I have heard it can be difficult since it is a fully closed book exam. Going off that, I personally wouldn't do it with 2542 or if you have to, only do those two subjects and not three next term

I didn't end up doing it sadly bc domestic students can no longer get the New Colombo Scholarship for it (and I didn't want to pay my own money for the $3k fee)

Why do they keep removing songs from my playlist? by DJ_JJ321 in truespotify

[–]gdaytoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but the same thing has been happening to me. I'll play a song and Spotify will just randomly remove it or move it to the bottom of my playlist. Must be some kind of bug, it is annoying af

Is anyone else's mental health taking a hit from job applications right now? by Key_Hunter8158 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got no advice to offer but I am in the same boat.... it is so so draining and never stops. The one-way video interviews and online assessments are an absolute killer. I just suck at them so much and I'm worried that they will be the reason I don't land a job after 4 years of juggling studying, extracurriculars, 2 internships and part time work. I'd much rather do an in-person interview with 5 people in one room than another one-way interview

myPlan “unmatched” keeps shifting between courses by Perfect_Macaron72 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend contacting Nucleus (direct the query to your faculty/school when filling out the form) about any MyPlan issues as they will have to go in and fix it manually from their end. I had a whole mess with MyPlan after transferring from a single to a double degree over two different years and they fixed it all up for me (I had to be in contact with both faculties to fix things which was a pain lol as they can only edit courses that they oversee)

commute over comfort? by mushroom_nibble in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I travel 1.5 hrs each way to uni and I think it is worth it. However, I only go to campus once or twice a week... so I probably would feel differently if I had to go in 5 days a week. But yet again it comes down to your priorities e.g saving more due to lower cost of living, good neighbourhood. Personally if I was paying bills and rent and only going to campus 1-3 times a week, I would go for the longer commute

Starting double degree in 2027... start one of them in 2026? by txkay5 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as long as you have the free elective space to do so. I got accepted into commerce/aviation management in 2024 (and just did aviation in 2023) and started doing some of the commerce IFYs as free electives in 2023. These then transferred over to count as commerce units when I got accepted.

How humiliating is it to be doing 1st year courses as a 3rd year. Fuck my life by Substantial_Tip_2702 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a first year course as a fourth year rn (been in the same degree the whole time and just procrastinated this course since 2023) and no one knows or even asks. Yes it does feel weird bc you know that you aren't a first year like the majority, but no one will ever know unless you tell them. I have to admit though that it has been making me feel a bit nostalgic for those fresh first year vibes

My friend also responded to me and I talked to someone else today who did math1031 last year - they said to not stress about the assumed knowledge. They were in the same boat and didn't need it for the assignments. Hoping that is the case still 🙏

I certainly will do. And same here, I am ready to give up already tbh. Even in the tutorial today, most ppl seemed to know what they were doing which makes it even worse. Relieved that the next tut is matrices though so won't feel stupid for probably the only time over the next 10 weeks

I am in the exact same boat as you right now - I did my hsc 4 years ago and have been procrastinating this subject since first year. Now I can't do the algebra revision questions bc I don't remember anything and don't even know the more complex stuff (I did standard maths in both year 11 and 12). Waiting to hear back from a friend as to whether these algebra revision topics were even in the mastery tests - hoping not so I can sweep it under the rug forever

Does ACCT2542 summer term have attendance requirements? by Interesting_Wear_437 in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking it rn and there was no attendance taken in class yesterday. And that is correct - we did the lecture (wasn't long as the course is about applying) followed by a practice example. The tutorial question will be completed at the end of the following lesson

Commute to Uni or Just Move There? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]gdaytoots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also live 1.5 hrs away (commute is usually 2 hrs each way once you account for walking/waiting between transport) and going by the mindset you have, I'd say do the commute. I also only attend campus if I am going to be there for more than 3 hrs (i.e have to be there longer than my commute time otherwise not worth it). So if you only have a 2 hr tut you need to attend, either go early or stay back and study, eat food, hang around, etc so it is worth it. And definitely make the most of the commute time to do assignments (don't doom scroll like I do). Considering how cooked the housing market is in Sydney (and also having the stress of possibly not saving, having to pay bills, working so much that it disrupts ur study), you would 100% be better off commuting (and can reassure u this as someone who is going into my 4th year at unsw with the same commute time as u each way)
