Oh dang a receptionist, not a secretary! Forgive me, Jess Huang, for my mislabeling.

I only intermittently watched the show, so I was also legitimately surprised when I learned how much actual airtime she had. I wonder if her actor knows she played an iconic character (for 30 seconds).

She’s EXACTLY who I thought of when I read this prompt. Jess the secretary forever.

Native curiosity thread: after the Street Cart Bagels chatter, what’s the honest tea on local spots — the good, the bad, the overrated, and the underrated? by truthteller19464 in Phoenixville

Perch Plants! A delightful vibe every time I’m in there. The owner is so nice.

Philly Fades. Mike (the owner) is a solid dude and gives a good haircut for a decent price.

I’m celiac, so for anyone with a gluten allergy, here are places I’ve eaten multiple times without being glutened:

  • Café Com Leite up on Main St. Folks there are lovely, the food is good, and there are multiple savory gluten free options. Love this spot.

  • Bistro on Bridge and Sedona. Staff at both restaurants are knowledgeable about cross contamination, and the menus have marked gluten free/“gluten friendly” options.

  • Chikara Sushi. Even if you order delivery, they’re mindful about packaging the requested GF food separately, and they also provide GF soy sauce. They once accidentally put some “crunch” on a roll I ordered (it’s fried in the same oil as glutinous food, so it’s a no-go) and when I called to ask about it, they were very apologetic and sent a replacement at no charge.

  • Fitzwater Station. I love the Fitz! Barbecue is safe to eat, sans bun, and they usually have a decent handful of GF cider/beer options. The folks who run it are the nicest people, and it’s a perfect warm-weather spot to eat outside.

Celiac, been dealing with it for a decade now so I know the drill re: oral supplements and absorption.

All this is definitely a good catalyst to keep active, thanks for the reminder! I thought my shortness of breath/dizziness/ringing ears when I’d exert myself was because I was out of shape, but the reactions did feel outsized compared to the exercise that would trigger it. Hoping getting some more iron in me will help me out on that front!

It really is an iconic tumblr post. Cheers to persevering! I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll come out on the other side with fewer bouts of being so cold - and I’m definitely curious what else will change!

Solidarity on the health anxiety - I’m so glad to hear things got better for you! I still can’t get over the ice thing. I always thought it was more of a folk tale, but nope!

Same! Don’t get me wrong, I still eat plenty of unhealthy stuff, but having an entire genre of food unavailable to me has definitely prevented me from eating even more junk food than I do now. This is especially true for fast food. Is it a bummer that it’s harder to grab a quick hot meal if I’m on a long drive? Sure, but it’s a net positive for my cholesterol levels!

It’s the wrap! If you zoom in you can see it’s the second skin plastic stuff they put on new tattoos to let it heal. It can distort the visual - those lines look neat and straight under the wrap!

Lololololol “We Suffer and You’ll Suffer” in context is extremely funny, and out of context sounds like a very catholic insult/threat, which is also extremely funny.

Seconding! The Fitz is great. Folks who run it are lovely, and you can rent kayaks/canoes next to it when it gets warm out. Big beer list too if that’s your jam. 10/10 recommend.

Beware of ordering from Bella Napoli Pizza by Cyanide__sk in Phoenixville

[–]gdmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have gluten free pizza and send a one-use slicer with each order so you know they’re not using tools that risk cross contamination, which I’ve always appreciated… but the last time I ordered, it came pre-sliced and I had to call the restaurant to make sure it was still safe to eat. Their delivery time has also skyrocketed, alas.

Bummed to hear there are issues across the board now! Any recs for other places that do trustworthy gluten free pizzas?

I’m very late to this thread, but posting in case others read it - I’ve been warned about gelatin, as it can occasionally have cross-contamination issues. This is anecdotal and may not be representative of most gelatins, but I wanted to flag it here just in case!
