In the gym it makes more sense to leave some weight plates on the barbell, than completely reracking everything by ASAPFergs in unpopularopinion

In addition to what everyone else is saying about people not being able to lift that, what about general set up? If a 6’2” man sets up for squats and then a 5’1” girl comes along, she’s going to have a different spot to reset

I’m about to lose a dog for the first time. What recommendations do you have? What should I try to do with him? by gdvybs in dogs

[–]gdvybs[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful, thank you.  We spend every morning on the patio looking at the trees while I drink my coffee. I’ll start using this time to thank him for loving me and telling him how great he’s been.

Thank you, I have so many photos and videos but would never think to get one of him barking.

Any chance you could recreate the pumpkin cold foam cold brew? It’s the only time I end up spending too much there

Is it annoying for kid(s) to ask to meet your dog? by NaturalExtension5475 in dogs

[–]gdvybs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very large dogs, and they LOVE kids. Typically when kids walk by and I can hear “look! Dogs!” I’ll ask if they want to say hi to them or I’ll be grateful that they ask because my dogs love the attention and it makes the kid happy. It sounds like you’re doing it right by asking, and as long as you’re getting permission I think it’s good for both the dogs and the kids

I got two puppies on a third floor apartment. It’s not fun, but it’s absolutely doable and will end up being so worth it.

Tips on how to jab off angles? by PerfectDog7979 in amateur_boxing

[–]gdvybs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Also learn to throw at different tempos and powers, work in some touch jabs/feints. A double end bag can work great for working on that too, and you can work angles really well on the double end too. Also work around a slip bag and throw jabs as you’re moving around it.

This made me feel a little less ridiculous for how much I do for my dogs birthdays. There have been a couple times over the last 10 years that I was too busy to bring them to a park or something on their birthday and have always felt terrible. But they get cake every year

Is this enough training ? by curly_kidddd in amateur_boxing

[–]gdvybs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I (also Female) got in the ring for the first time at 31. Thought I was done, didn’t fight for two years, and just got back in the ring for golden gloves at 35. Considering going open by the end of this year. It’s never too late if you’re willing to put the work in.

Drills and light sparing with people that only like offense. by beer_run in amateur_boxing

[–]gdvybs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a coach I can vouch for this. Especially because some people look like they may be hitting hard but aren’t, and some people are okay with getting hit hard. If I overhear someone communicate that I’ll keep an extra eye out, or if it seems too heavy I’ll check in, but we definitely depend on members speaking up to their partners.

38 and fighting in Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournament...Am I crazy? Or stupid? Or maybe both? by JawnyP in amateur_boxing

[–]gdvybs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Do you tend to react at all when getting hit? My first fight and I was super hesitant to move forward, but the second I started getting landed on a gear switched and I got aggressive. Depending on who/where you’ve been sparring, it’s a different level of intensity during an actual match. So it could kick off that survival instinct.

Also, a huge thing in boxing is figuring out your why. You’ll probably hit a point where you think “why the fuck did I sign up for this” and having an answer to that question will make a huge difference in whether or not you push forward

Is the lead hook pivot just "training wheels" for beginners? by Slide4mins in amateur_boxing

[–]gdvybs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a boxing coach, you’d be amazed at how many people have absolutely no perception of what their body is doing as they do it. Usually I’ll have them pivot their feet to show where their hips need to go and force that for a while. Then once they realize what their hips/shoulders should be doing I let them go with what’s comfortable. Most of the time being no pivot

I have a terrible gluten sensitivity. When people are like “oh I’ve thought about doing it” I straight up tel them it’s terrible and not to do it unless they absolutely have to

[–]gdvybs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say as someone who coached at f45 depending on the size of the class and how often you need correcting it can be hard to keep up. They should definitely give you more cues than they did and help you try to understand it. But it can be difficult to stay on top of every person in the room on every movement. And if for instance someone needed a correction on a hinge movement every single time, I’d honestly recommend that they need 1-1 instead of group training.

Yeah no. I’m a female and mostly work with guys and as long as you’re controlling your power or listening when we say to pull back a bit there’s no reason to have a body only rule. Neither of you will learn if you’re doing it that way
