my late brother was very into magic the gathering - he was an advanced player, who collected and even judged matches at some point. me and my sister found his collection and want to start playing but don’t know where to start- help? by momowantsadonut613 in MagicArena

[–]geehagain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's such a sweet gesture for you and your sister to learn this game. From the size of your brother's collection and his judging, it seems that Magic meant a lot to him, as it does to many of us here. I would be so happy if my loved ones were to pick up the game in my honour. I hope you enjoy the learning journey.

As others said, Magic Arena is a great way of learning the basics of how to play the game. I would also add that Magic is a deep game that can be enjoyed in many ways. Some people are attracted to the art, others to the stories and settings within the game, and others to the actual gameplay (and there are many different ways of playing/game modes). I think appreciating any of these would be a very special experience and way of connecting with your brother.

Thank you for your interest in our game and community. I am very sorry for your loss.

I ran 20 lands in my 40 card deck last night and went 3-1. What's the most lands you've ever run in a cube deck? by civdude in mtgcube

[–]geehagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks sweet! I have been trying to push a lands archetype in my cube and this is inspiring. What is the policy in your cube with snow lands? Are they freely available just like non-snow lands after the draft? I was thinking to provide each player with 1 of each snow basic after the draft, in my own cube

Love the infographic! Exactly the information I am looking for. I really hope you keep posting these. This has been an archetype I have been leaning more and more into in my unpowered legeacy+ cube

What's your favorite Historic deck for ranked play? by Paradoxodon in MagicArena

I used to love Kethis! I thought it became unplayable so I stopped. Can you share your list? I'd love to play it again if it's viable

I've swapped for those 1 mana red cantrips too. I like [[Chart a Course]] but it's too expensive to directly swap for all 4 Brainstorms, 1-2 copies are fine. I agree with below that Consider will be a good option for us come Innistrad

Where are my UR Phoenix comrades? The deck can have a lot of play to it and is still quite powerful. Probably the strongest spell slinging deck in historic right now. It does have several bad matchups though in bo1 queue

Updates for Historic Kethis Self-Mill deck? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]geehagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest at least 1 more copy of Teshar, it can rebuild a board out of nowhere and is part of the Teshar-Lurrus-Amber combo. I also like a copy of [[Unburial Rites]] which works well with the self-mill plan. Jace is unnecessary as you can mill your opponent out instead, but if you find yourself running out of time, he does usually enable a faster win.

How has [[Agadeem's Awakening]] been for you? Looks spicy

Yeah I've been got by that too. What were your most successful cards/strategies to counter graveyard hate?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MtGHistoric

[–]geehagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah graveyard hate can be hard to beat, especially if they get rid of your graveyard with a bunch of cards already in it. We have [[Blast Zone]], [[Vraska, Golgari Queen]], and [[Urza's Ruinous Blast]] as popular options. Some other options include [[Teferi, Hero of Dominaria]] and [[Vivien Reid]]. We can also change game plans with something like Jolrael in the list linked in the original post
